Feels like a gamble by both sides, slightly more on the Devils side of things. But he's a great player and I think he will probably be worth that money, if not more, in a couple of years.

Probably a reasonable deal for both sides. Chances are the first couple years he'll be making more than he should, the middle few years he'll be on par with his salary, and nearing the end he'll be out playing it... If all goes as expected of him.

This is kinda how the Devils need to do to become relevant again. High risk deals. With Hughes and Hischier locked up to either crippling deals, or amazing deals it is an interesting situation to monitor.
Love when teams want to take chances instead of playing safe.
