What a difference a year makes. (Even less than a year)

If you're wanting the GM to be french speaking, make him a puppet. Or like day-to-day stuff. Bobby Webster to Masai Ujiri in Toronto Raptors context. Masai runs the team, makes the decisions on the big stuff, but Webster is the GM.

This is exactly why they hired Gorton and hired him first, with a more senior title. Like John Davidson has done in many of his tenures..

Their track record is better than the one of many teams. Yes. It is.

Blaming it on language is a convenient excuse. Their biggest failure is Timmins, an anglophone whose job does not require him to be bilingual (even though he learned some French).

So it has nothing to do with it. It’s a good pretext..

Gorton is a great hire and isn't talked about enough I think. The Rangers are relevant because of his work.

And Timmins should have been gone long ago but Bergevin kept him around. The telling part about how bad he was is you shouldn't know his name. He's in a role where the only time you know the scouting/drafting GMs name is because he's bad or he's up to be hired by another team. As loyal as a man Bergevin was to people he liked, it was a fault here and Timmins should have been gone long ago.

I could not agree more. He inherited him from Gainey so after a while he should have seen the failures and gone to get his own head scout.

Just for clarification, what is "Gorton is really good" based on?

    Gorton's time with Rangers:

    The Good:
    Panarin Signing
    Zibanejad Trade
    Fox Trade
Rick Nash deal - Lindgren + Miller (used a pick in the deal to move up to pick Miller).
Flipped Spooner who he got in the Nash deal for Strome
DeAngelo Trade (got a 1st as well)

    The In Question:
    Trouba trade
    McDonagh/Miller trade

    The Ugly:
    Kravtsov draft
    Kreider extension
    Shattenkirk buyout
    Graves trade
    Andersson draft

I'm sure there's other stuff that Gorton did, but that's it off the top of my head.

So two of his best moves were signing players who were only going to sign in New York, and giving up assets to do so?

Others were in on Panarin, and getting him is a feat. Fox was a bit of a "if NYR wanted him he's going to NYR" so NYR still had to want him.

Shesterkin was not a Gorton draft pick, but he did convince him to come over from the KHL 5 (or 4?)yrs after he was picked

The whole Rangers top 4 was because of trades (Lindgren, Fox, Miller, Trouba) and Lundkvist was a trade as well. 2 are drafted by NYR, but acquired the picks.

Lots of GM names out there but Mathieu Darche and Daniel Briere seem to be coming up the most, of what Ive seen.

    3 C, 3 LW, 3 RW, 6D, 2G, 5 bench

    C - McDavid, Crosby, Tavares
    LW - DeBrincat
    RW - Meier, Miller

Martin Madden Jr in Anaheim is often cited as well. He has a very good draft record over the years, but maybe they need someone with a different profile.

Patrick Roy was asked by Quebec city media (he coaches the Remparts) if he would be interested in the GM position, and he obviously said yes. I think it would be a terrible choice... and I suspect Molson knows it as well.
    Points-only keeper league. 12 teams. Keep any 12 players. Dress 12F - 6D - 2G.
