I can't imagine the Olympic Committee allows that to happen. There's enough issues with having an Olympics in China right now that I doubt anyone wants to force all athletes to spend an extra 3 weeks there.

No way NHL gives the OK if 3 week quarantine prior to arrival is required. If that truly is the case I don’t see the nhl pros going. I know they really want to, but that’s a lot of games for all those superstars to miss, before the shutdown… I dunno..

There's a potential for a player to be stuck in China for up to 5 weeks if they have a positive case with their rules. So imagine on the last day Crosby got COVID and had to miss 5 weeks of the regular season.

NHL has already come out and said this is the players choice so they are clearly giving their blessing and letting the players decide their fate.

that 5 week quarantine thing has to raise some concerns now. I know the IOC insures players for injuries, but there is no insurance for missing games due to covid. like it was said above, imagine sid getting it on the last day and has to miss 5 weeks of the regular season. i know it a small dent in the wallet for him, but for some other players it could be substantial

My mom also curls, and was actually curling with a coach for the team canada Paralympic team. And she was over in China recently for some like pre-olympic tourny. They had to go from the hotel to the rink and that's it. Can't do anything outside of the buildings you sleep/compete in. The food was apparently TERRIBLE and the translation was so broken in the writing that it was frustrating to even do anything. When you entered the curling arena, they sprayed you down with some disinfectant spray, and when you entered the hotel they did the same. There was a couple of other things I can't remember being a logistics issue for her when she was in China, but they clearly weren't as important since I don't remember lol.

I think the NHL knows the situation when it comes to fans and the Olympics, and how much negative press they got in 2018. They're putting it on the players because at the end of the day, I think many won't end up going. The NHL will get to say "we allowed them, they didn't want to go" and the owners get their players to stay in NA and get healthy for a playoff push.

I think one of the things the curling coach complained about was family. They didn't go and it was tough on her being away from them and said it would be a very difficult thing for athletes to do for the Olympics. The Pietrangelo post made me remember that portion.

Pretty much this. Maybe some guys on garbage teams who want an escape go as well, but other than that I don't see too many taking the risk.

On the one hand I want the NHL players there because the product is better, on the other hand I don't want them there because Olympics is more about amateur sports (low money etc.). Just like the olympic soccer tourney is boring and quite useless.
