The good thing about the NHL not going to the Olympics will be that the Women's Hockey will get more focus by the media.

Rumours of players being contacted for Canada's team trickling out. Devan Dubnyk was also released from his AHL PTO earlier this week.

    Andrew Mahoney@GlobeMahoney

Can confirm NU goalie Devon Levi and BC forward Jack McBain have been invited to join Canada’s Olympic men’s hockey team. Both are expected to accept.

Some names I'm hearing for Canada’s Olympic men’s hockey team:

Owen Power, Eric Staal, Daniel Winnik, Adam Cracknell, Maxim Noreau, Jason Demers, Mark Barberio, Daniel Carr, David Desharnais, Alex Grant, Eddie Pasquale.
    More names:
Landon Ferraro, Mat Robinson, Eric O'Dell

So is Dubnyk release to play in the Olympics or release cause he isn't making the squad?

Could be either. Could just be a coincidence he was released shortly before the team is put together. Dubnyk, Levi, and Pasquale make sense as a trio to bring though I think.

I think it's expected that Dubnyk is on the Canada roster. But nothing I've seen have confirmed it.

Dreger saying no Dubnyk. Kent Johnson a hard maybe.

Levi, Pasquale and Tomkins will handle goaltending for Team Canada at the Olympics. Also, clarification on Kent Johnson. Johnson is listed as an alternate going into camp, but could make the team if there’s an injury or Covid hits

Get some Devon Levi shares if you can. Having a monster college year. Maybe he doesn't make a big Olympic splash, but could easily parlay into a role for Canada's World Championship roster in the spring.

Also of note, it's highly likely the teams will have a taxi squad of (I believe) of 6 people.

Team Canada is taking six alternate players to the Beijing Olympics: Justin Pogge, Morgan Ellis, John Gilmour, Chris DiDomenico, Kent Johnson and Max Véronneau.

Ho-Sang has a concussion (Last played Jan 14th I believe), and the Olympics say you need to isolate for 14days prior to "entering" the Olympics. And the 1st mens hockey game is Feb9th. So they need to be in China tonight pretty much.

Can Ho-Sang fly that distance with a concussion? Maybe his concussion isn't bad and the Leafs/Marlies were holding him out because they knew he'd be an Olympian and didn't want to risk making it worse and held him out without needing too?

    Translation:
6 people from the Russian men's hockey team after arriving in China passed a positive test for coronavirus.
    https://www.sport-express.ru/olympic...virus-1886822/

As it became known to "SE", six players of the Russian national team passed positive tests for coronavirus after arriving in Beijing. Among them are reserve hockey players Dmitry Shugaev and Kirill Marchenko.

Today, February 3, the Russian team announced that forwards Sergei Plotnikov and Artem Anisimov did not fly to Beijing for the 2022 Olympic Games with the Russian team due to positive tests for coronavirus .

Recall that the Russian men's hockey team flew to Beijing to participate in the 2022 Olympics on a separate flight from other athletes . Initially, hockey players were supposed to fly on the same flight with teams in snowboarding in parallel disciplines, Nordic combined, Alpine skiing and individual athletes from speed skating teams.

The men's hockey tournament starts on February 9 with a match between the national teams of Russia and Switzerland. The Russian national team will play in group B with the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Denmark.
