You don't sign a goalie like Raanta to be injury insurance to your starter and trade him 35 days into the season. I don't see it really being a match right now.
I keep seeing these YouTube videos about Gibson and mag going to oiltown but neither make much sense. Anaheim is against all odds playoff bound for all intents and purposes whereas Mac doesn't bring all that much to the table that they don't have in Smith akreadt- debatable.
What about raanta? Carolina has a workhorse in Andy and antii could thrive in a platoon with smith or koskinen. Does this make sense from a cap or trade asset perspective? I can't help but feel like it'd be a win win..

The only way I see Edmonton making a goalie move any time soon is if Mike Smith is deemed to be out long term.

Pretty much. The only way the Oilers bring in a goalie is to send one out. At the beginning of the year the Oilers would have loved to give Koskinen away for nothing. Now he is 9-1-0 with a respectable 0.915 and Smith is still out.
Skinner has actually played ok but not won any games, if the Oilers think Smith is out long-term I could see them adding an NHL tested backup. This is exactly where Alex Stalock would have fit in perfectly but unfortunately he is out for the season with covid complications.
Raanta fits in as a capable backup in Carolina, and potential injury stopgap, for cheap. Not sure why Carolina, a contender, would give that up.
