I opened up about my OCD. My retirement from hockey. My successes and my failures. But I left something out. And I justified it in my head because I didn’t want it to dilute my message — or my goal to help people. I told myself it wouldn’t make sense, that it wasn’t necessary. But I was lying to myself. The truth is … man, the truth is simple: I was ashamed. Deeply ashamed. I held it close, scared of what people might think of me.

The truth is, I was an addict.

Solid share - thanks butch. Combatting the stigma associated with his situation is critical and those who have gone through it, including those who are commonly looked up to for their achievements in life, is central to getting there.

I posted about this when it first came to light. I have OCD and it's a beast. It robs you of joy and ratchets up your anxiety plus usually leads to depression. Meds rarely help, but therapy can provide varying degrees of success. I feel for anyone else who also suffers from this plight.
