Default Is this too much for MacKinnon?

A team in my 14 team keeper league is tanking out this season. He's already lost Eichel for God knows how long and is looking to position himself in the Shane Wright sweepstakes.

    Here's his offer:

    His:
    N.MacKinnon

    for

    My:
    C. Caufield
    A. Svechnikov (Carolina)
    C. Sillinger
    L Hughes
    4 2nd round entries 2022 (likely between 15th & 20th overall). I'm hearing 2022 is going to be a really deep draft.

The draft is a pts only keeper. 1 pt goal + 1 pt assist. We roster 9 fwd's (non-postitional), 2 Def + 1 Goalie. We carry a really deep roster (45 players). I have a team that is on the cusp of climbing to the top 3 this year.

Do I pull the trigger or is Svechnikov (4 yrs younger) vs Mackinnon not that big of a gap in pts to be adding 7 additional pieces?

If you can downgrade Svech, I'd look at doing it. As is it's a bit too much (but not crazy).

What does being top 3 get you? If it's not winning you the title I think that's way too much. I can't see how Mackinnon gets you that much closer to #1 if you're sending back Svechnikov as well.

I was thinking the same thing! Thanks for the reassurance.

I'm not winning this year due to not having the horses, and 3rd place only gets me my money back.

I'll be holding off on MacKinnon unless the Svech portion of the deal is downgraded.

    Thanks!

Personnally when getting a player a tier above the one(s) I give, I consider it a go. I would accept that offer, unless you consider Svechnikov in the same tier as MacKinnon

We've started to zero in on what's important here, that being, does this trade help you win a championship? If the answer is yes, then it's a stiff price to pay but worth doing if your going to win your league. From the sounds of things, this trade is not pushing you over the top, but that's just a guess. We could really use more information on what your team looks like now and what it might look like after this trade. Right now I would ball park MacK's production at 20 pts more than Svech's. Does that make enough of a difference to put you over the top and justify having to part company with 3 blue chip prospects and all those high draft picks? Too be honest, right now I'm not liking this trade for you. This is a classic Sell High for the other guy IMO.

I love Svechnikov, but when you get an opportunity to grab MacKinnon, you take it. The other players/pieces you are giving up are not really relevant when discussing someone of MacKinnon's caliber. You can always tweak the trade if this is in discussion, but if you have the opportunity to "accept" this trade now, I'd take it before it's gone.
