    Default Caufield vs. Zegras. REP

    Welcome sports fans.

Was offered this trade during the offseason and declined it. My Caufield for his Zegras. Its a points and +/- only league. I initially rejected it because I was thinking Montreal would be better than they have shown and because of Caufield's projection to be slotted on a top line and PP1 role.

He is a Montreal fan so told me to let him know if I change my mind.

It is a salary cap limited keeper league.

Which side do you prefer and why?

Will REP where possible and thanks in advance!

Zegras will be the better points only player when they’re both in their prime. I own and love both, so can’t really go wrong. I would have said Caufield should do more than Zegras this year due to better line mates, but something just doesn’t smell right with the Habs right meow. If he’s a Montreal fan, see if he will add to the deal.
12 teams. Keep 9 any position.
7 prospects. D scoring 3.75 for goal, 2.75 for assist. Forwards 3.5 for goal, 2.5 for assist. 0.5 for hits and blocks. Goalie scoring -1.5 GA, 0.3 for save, 2 points for win and extra 2 for shutout.

    Pre Draft

F: Keller, Zegras, Suzuki, Caufield, Cozens

    D: Drysdale, Guhle, Perunovich

    G:

    IR:

Prospects: W. Johnston, K. Johnson, Guenther, Morrow, Mateychuk

I agree that Zegras will be the better points only player. The ultimate answer depends on +/- which can't readily be predicted. I don't get the sense that either one will be a defensive dynamo, so both might end up being the kinds of players who are better on the PP than at 5x5. If they both hit near their peak, I'd guess that Caufield will be paid more because teams pay more for goals than assists. So when they get their new deals, Zegras will likely be a little more valuable in the cap department as well.

Thanks guys! I also feel they will be similar. Contract wise its hard to say as both could end up with big contracts at the end of their ELC's depending no both performance and how the team values their future. I am leaning Zegras a bit as I feel Anaheim is on their way up and the Habs have a lot of question marks. Also like the Ducks division better as we carry our rosters over to a playoff pool.

i think you wrong on salary...depends how they develop but if Zegras waits few years before signing big deal i can see something close to Marner. I dont think Cufiled will get anywhere close to that...

i dont think they are in same tire...CC got hyped cause of Monterals playoff run..he didnt even produce that well...just got hyped...

I mean that if Caufield hits his potential, he's 40g 35a type guy and Zegras is closer to 25g 60a. Even if those numbers are wrong, my impression is that teams pay more for the former type of statline. As to Marner, I don't think that Anaheim is going to add a premium onto their deal so that they can portray to the Anaheim media that they have signed a Don-Cherry-approvable Ontario boy.

If we're talking about salary in 2 seasons...it's a good thing to me if they get huge paydays because that likely means they've performed lol.

I personally can't think about a salary for a player coming off their ELC in 2yrs. The difference between a bridge and long term deal is huge. And we're 4 games into their 2nd yr of their ELC. It's too early for me to be using that as a difference maker.

If one was 3yrs vs 2yrs that's different. But both are 2yrs.

Exactly, so for me the contract can't be a concern as I am trying to find the best player for this year and onwards. It feels like Zegras will be given more opportunity this season but always hard to know. A team slumps and the lines change.
