All pretty close, none of the options are great goal scorers but Tavares has had some good years for goals and I’d take a chance on Svech figuring out his scoring. So Tavares and Svech for me

I'm going JT and Svech. JT has historically been the better goal scorer of the five and I'd bet on that not changing, 35 goals and 35 assists. Perron, Barzal and Gaudreau are all very similar, ballpark, 25 goals and 45 assists. Svech stands out here for me, I believe an 80 pt season vice 70 for the others is very possible, again ballpark, 25 goals and 55 assists. All conjecture at this point but past stats and current projections lean toward these two for me.

Johnny Gaudreau

I think I might take a chance on Johnny Gaudreau.
He is set to become a UFA.

The last time he was in a contract year he put up 78 points in 79 games. (2015-16)
He also scored 30 goals that year.
He is 28 years old and still a prime age.
He is my first pick of the group as I think the upside is the highest for him.

Options

1) Picking a safe floor option to match with the risk/reward pick of Gaudreau.

If I do this then I am picking John Tavares.
He is on a high scoring team and has great linemates.
However his age is going to prevent the ceiling from being very high.

2) More upside pick in Svechnikov.

Age is on his side, he is only 21 and entering his 4th year in the league.
That is recipe for a huge year - especially with the Carolina top 6 forwards.

Does his playing style allow for him to be a point per game player?
Does Necas take his slot on the PP1.

There is some risk there... but it might be worth taking.

Not Options

1) Barzal - I simply don't think the NYI style of play allows Barzal to score at a high enough pace to consider him over the above three options.

2) PErron - He is 33 years old. I can't see him continuing at the same pace as the last couple years.
I see him falling of a cliff this year in scoring.
Especially with:
- Kyrou a year older
- Saad coming to town
- Buchnevich coming to town
- A healthy Tarasenko.

I am guessing by Christmas Perron is playing third line.

I think JT will be fine for a 31 year old. I hear 30 is the new 25. I would go him and Svech.
