    Default Moritz Seider - impressions

    Hey guys,

Anyone notice that Moritz Seider has 5 shots 21:18 icetime and 4 shots 22:54 his last two games?\

I know it is only preseason, but is this surprising to anyone?

He's obviously good. He's obviously a keeper. But for a one year league, how do you anticipate he'll do? Is he going to be better than Hronek (in points only - can't see Seider doing better than Hronek in a multicat)?

Also, that's a lot of icetime considering the games were back to back.

(Granted, in the game before, he only had one shot and was a minus 3, but he still had tons of icetime.)

Anyway, just wondering what others thought...

I think he'll be a top-4 D for them and will get 21-22 minutes a night. I don't think Detroit will be shy to use him on the PK at all and he might see some time on PP2 when Hronek/Leddy have a cold streak.

That being said, I don't see him putting up big numbers whether it's points or peripherals.

I'm in the boat as well. I love the future but just don't see them rushing things for him. This is a pretty big jump for him in terms of games played so I expect the progression might be a bit slower.

I've commented a lot on Seider in a recent thread here.

    https://forums.dobbersports.com/show...679-Seider-REP

In summary, I've followed him extremely closely over the last two years. I've watched hours of footage/highlight packages, watched/read half a dozen interviews, watched him closely at the WJHC in 2019, and read everything I can about him. Bottom-line, I am confident he will be one of the top dmen in the NHL someday soon. In the same category as someone like Slavin or Parayko. That is, he can play an extremely solid two-way game, and be one of the most physically-intimidating dmen who can be counted on to shutdown the other team's best players. What I'm unsure about is his offensive upside, which I am tentatively limiting to 45-50 pts in his prime, with potential for higher totals if he improves he shot, in terms of quantity and quality (getting the shots through and increasing his velocity and accuracy). Although only the pre-season, I did watch last night's game and he REALLY impressed me with his aggressiveness in terms of SOGs. He seems way more confident to shoot the puck than I have ever seen before. He's always been an excellent skater, passer, and surprisingly good stick-handler for a big guy. The shot always disappointed me, yet he seems to be improving already. I am seriously starting to wonder if maybe, just maybe, he could be just as good as someone like Pronger. That is an incredibly lofty comparison, but I have not seen a dman enter the league since Pronger who brings the same elements to the game.

I think he has a really good chance of winning the Calder. Zegras isn't getting the ice time to produce points, and he was my pre-season favorite. I also didn't expect Seider to be getting so much power play time, so he "should" be good for 40 pts this year. That's more than enough for a rookie dman to win the Calder.
