LA Kings look to have their opening night roster set:

LA KINGS 2021-22 OPENING NIGHT ROSTER
Arvidsson – Kopitar – Brown
Kempe – Danault – Iafallo
Tkachev – Vilardi – Andersson
Moore – Lizotte – Kaliyev
Grundstrom
Lemieux
Anderson – Doughty
Bjornfot – Roy
Edler – Walker
Wolanin
Petersen
Quick
Not really any big surprises.
Tkachev (LW3) and Kaliyev (RW4) are small surprises... if they are minus players, we'll probably see Grundstrom and Lemieux swap in.
(And I'd bet Lemieux gets the start against any grit teams in the Pacific)
Easier for wingers to get a spot than centers (Byfield and Kupari both two guys I was rooting for... but gonna be hard to nose into the Kopitar/Danault/Vilardi trio... without an injury there.)
I had heard waffling/differing opinions on Bjornfot's progression, but it looks like he's got himself a shot at playing in the top 6.
(FWIW, I think that second listed D-pairing will be their actual "third pairing" by registered minutes. I have to believe Edler-Walker gets more time.)
Yeah... Jarvis is interesting case.
Last year, the Wolves (CAR's AHL team) didn't give Jarvis enough starts to qualify for this year's "back to AHL" condition.
So if CAR cuts him - he has to go back to WHL - a league he's already torn up multiple times... nothing left to prove for him there.
Also - Trocheck is now injured which opens up playing time.
So I think we'll see Jarvis at LEAST get 9gp to open the NHL season:
A recent hockeywriters article from yesterday has them as this:
https://thehockeywriters.com/carolin...er-prediction/
Svechnikov – Aho – Teravainen
Kotkaniemi – Trocheck – Necas
Niederreiter – Staal – Jarvis
Martinook – Stepan – Fast
Slavin – Bear
Skjei – Pesce
Cole – DeAngelo
Andersen
Raanta
But... if Trocheck is out... perhaps KK slides to C2 and somebody fills LW2.
Either way, it gives Jarvis' hold on a line 3 wing spot more security.
And line 3 wing is perfect spot for a young, dynamic forward to start at in NHL.
Looking good for Jarvis!
(Other roster option for CAR w/Trocheck out is to use Lorentz at C2 or C3... he's been solid during preseason and not listed above.)

The big question here is what happens to Byfield after return from the broken ankle. Word is no ligament damage, and I believe no surgery, so he can be back in 6-10 weeks. My guess is he goes to AHL Reign for a rehab stint, maybe 5 games, and then they call him up. So I’m penciling him in for January to start contributing at the NHL level.
I know you see him as a classic “big power forward” progression which can take years even just getting to say 70 points. I think he’s not your classic big power forward in that vein, he’s super fast for his size already, so I’m betting a quicker progression.

I really like how Vilardi played for LA. He was fast, real fast.

Posted this in the Perfetti thread.
If you are an Athletic subscriber, read this absolutely phenomenal piece on the Jets roster situation:

Long story short, looks likely that both Perfetti and Heinola will be on the roster on day 1 but then immediately sent to the Manitoba Moose for cap reasons, to maximize cap relief.

Yeah, there's a few teams that I hear are going to try to bank cap relief at start of season.
Charlie O'Connor (PHI beat reporter) speculates PHI will hold exactly the bare minimum 12F/6D/2G on roster to start the season...
I can only assume they are doing this for banking cap. (though my knowledge with cap is not high-level)
I do know that Toronto started doing this a lot last couple seasons... flexing guys up/down on/off roster to bank a little cap space every day they could.
I wonder if we see any other teams doing this.
For example, STL doesn't play their first game until Saturday, Oct.15th... so I wonder if they'll declare a bare minimum for their opening roster.
NHL Rosters, I believe, are due at 5pm Eastern today!
Can't wait!
Tampa, with Brisebois, are masters at this. I read somewhere that they maximized cap relief again this year within a few hundred dollars of the maximum, like $700. Last year was $300. Both phenomenal given the permutations and combinations needed to achieve that. And funny enough, sometimes a marginal player will get $100k or $200k more in salary just for this reason.

CAR lines today do suggest Trocheck is fine... and unfortunately, now suggest Jarvis might be on the chopping block... rotating in with 4th liners.

Aho centers Kotkaniemi, Necas; Trocheck with Svech, Teravainen; Staal with Nino, Fast; Fourth line has Jarvis working with Stepan, Lorentz, Martinook.
Jarvis will play some NHL games this year, according to Brind'Amour

I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.
Potentially big news out of Motown. Bobby Ryan has been released from his PTO, per Coach Blashill.
This likely means Raymond has made the opening night roster.

If you are in a banger league take a look at Tanner Jeannot of NSH. He has had a nice preseason and the guy can score while dishing 4 hits per game. If a 40 point forward with 300 hits can help you at the bottom of the bench here is a guy to take last round.
A surprise (at least to me) on the negative side is Dylan Strome, who appears to be in Colliton's doghouse and may not even be in the opening night lineup.
