    Dobber Sports Supreme Grand Master

Default Re: Dobber Pro Campbell 2021-22

Round 1 (5) – Mikko Rantanen This was probably the toughest decision of the whole draft. Between Matthews, Vasileskiy and Rantanen. I decided I would go with the RWer and drafted Rantanen. I am never big on shooters coming back from wrist injury, so that’s why I passed on Matthews.

Round 2 (20) – Darcy Kuemper I usually wait on goalies until later in the draft. But the goalie I the team I think will win the most games this year is still available. Give me Kuemper here.

Round 3 (29) - Kirill Kaprizov Almost a point per game in year 1, I have huge expectations for Kaprizov this year. I have him hitting 90 points. In a league where you have to finish top 2 to get promoted… I am going to go for some big upside here!

Round 4 (44) – Elias Lindholm. I wanted to get some hits without sacrificing too many points. Almost a hit per game and ¾ point per game is the balance I was looking for here, especially if Kaprizov scores 90!

Round 5 (53) – Jonathan Marchessault – Similar thinking to the Lindholm pick, some hits, lots of SOG and on a team where he can end up being +20. All while scoring at a decent rate.

After 5 Rounds I have a goalie and four forwards (of which 3 have dual eligibility) Flexibility was important to me so that I could draft BP available when it really matters in the middle of the draft.

Round 6 (68) Ryan O’Reilly – Another strong candidate for plus/minus and his scoring and shooting has picked up. I am happy with him as my C1.

Round 7 (77) Charlie McAvoy – I wanted to make sure that all my D had a combined SOG + Hit total of at least 225. McAvoy as my first D man, with one more year of experience on the PP1, I think outperforms his draft spot here.

Round 8 (92) – Mathew Barzal – I was looking at Carter Hart in this round, but he was unavailable. So I decided this is the year Mathew Barzal takes the big step forward and becomes a point per game player.

Round 9 (101) – Brock Boeser – My 4th and 5th rounder were more focused on peripherals, so when a player like Boeser is available at the 101st pick, it is an easy selection or me. He isn’t going to win me the hits category, but I like the point production at this draft capital.

Round 10 (116) – Phillip Grubauer – I am not sure where Seattle is going to finish in the standings, but I think the team is going to play a structure that allows for Grubauer to have a lot of easy saves and decent peripherals. I wanted to make sure I had 2 goalies after 10 rounds, and he was the best available.
After 10 rounds I have two goalies, one defense and seven forwards (2C, 2LW, 3RW) I need to start finding some value on my back end.

Round 11 (125) – Ryan Ellis So I knew I needed D-men and I had Dahlin on the top of my queue, but I figured he would fall down a round or two yet because of his plus minus… so I took the homer pick. Everything I read about my Flyers is how awesome Ellis and Provorov look together. And his beard looks so good with the Flyers uniforms!

Round 12 (140) – Jamie Benn – Anyone remember when Benn was going 3rd overall in Roto leagues because he could do it all? Well he still does it all, but not in as great of amounts, so I will take a chance on him at pick 140 producing even 60% of that here is decent.

Round 13 (149) – Filip Forsberg - I love this pick at this point!! Over a hit per game, and three shots per game. And someone has to lead Nashville in scoring! Come on Forsberg!

Round 14 (164) Evgeni Kuznetsov - Remember how earlier I said Dahlin would fall a couple rounds before I took him. Well I got caught up in the forward names still available and missed out on him. Kuznetsov is a former point producer, and should start the season with OVY. And I fully expect that we see old-school Ovy and the Capitals. Where is all about offense. Ovy has won the Stanley Cup now… so he has his sites on Gretzky’s record. Ovy scores 60 goals this year… Kuznetsov has 70 assists! I need to sell this pick high. Because I wanted to make sure I got Keumper’s back-up… and Francouz went the pick before me… so I was extremely bitter and need to convince myself this was a great pick!

Round 15 (173) Drake Batherson – Kuznetsov doesn’t get many hits… so I wanted to make sure this pick was a hitter… and Batherson. Almost two hits per game and two shots per game. On an up and coming team in Ottawa…. Even if he doesn’t increase his scoring… I will take the hits at this point.

    - - - Updated - - -

After 15 rounds I have two goalies, two defense and 10 forwards. I am okay waiting on defense because at this point there are lots of high-hitting with decent shot production. So I have four defense slots and two forward slots to fill… time to get risky!!

Round 16 (188) Jack Eichel – I know he might not play at all this year… but if he does… then he could be a league winner. Right now the players that could be drafted do not provide as much upside and could be dropped weeks into the season. And as mentioned earlier… to get to the Stanley League… you got to finish in the top 2!

Round 17 (197) Justin Faulk - A d-man that averages over two hits and two shots per game… that’s what I am looking for at this stage! And on a good team so plus/minus won’t be horrible… hopefully!

Round 18 (212) Esa Lindell – More of the same, decent hits and shots per game from a late D-man. With Seguin, Radulov and Hintz all back healthy, this team should score more…

Round 19 (221) Laurent Brossoit – Some backup goalies are starting to go and Francouz went a long time ago. In order to win this league… you need to make sure you get the goalie starts, so grabbing a backup goalie from a top tier team seems like a good recipe.

Round 20 (236) Jesper Kotkaniemi – I started scrolling way down just to see who Yahoo had missed the mark on significantly and I find a gem. He is playing with Teravainen and Trochek, and the line seems to be gelling… I am al about upside with this pick.

Round 21 (245) Eric Cernak – Another D-man that flirts with two shots per game while providing over two hits per game… and has some offensive upside. Also plays on a good team and should help the plus minus category!

Round 22 (260) Brian Elliot – Remember when I said I was upset when Francouz was drafted int eh 14th round… well I am a lot happier about that now that I have two backups (Elliot and Brossoit) on two powerhouse teams. These two goalies will get the games against Buffalo, Anaheim, Arizona… and put solid numbers up for me!

Round 23 (269) Jamie Drysdale – Upside here!! Is this the year that Anaheim’s young forward group takes a step forward and gets scoring. Sure Drysdale doesn’t hit much… but neither does Adam Fox and where was he drafted (34th overall). I am hoping that I got this years Adam Fox. If not he sits on my bench until I need help elsewhere.

Round 24 (284) Vasily Podkolzin – More upside! I heard he was playing with JT Miller in training camp… so if he can crack the Canucks top six group… then I think I have the Calder Trophy winner right here.

Round 25 (293) Jamie Oleksiak – I think the Seattle Structure will play right into Oleskiak getting over 200 hits this year. It was between him and Adam Larsson. Larsson might get a few more hits… but I expect Oleksiak to have some more offensive upside playing with Giordano.

Team Name - Going with Toby Keith on this one - I Love This Barzal - I love this Bar X Mathew Barzal.

First year in the Pro league so hoping to make an impact. Here goes nothing!

    1. (8) David Pastrnak (Bos - RW)
Picking 8 I knew I'd miss on the real big guys. I got excited seeing Matthews a bit lower on the Yahoo ADP but I knew he would go. Debated Ovie here but am very happy with 40 goals, a ton of PPP and SOG and a very solid base for the worst stat ever....plus/minus.

    2. (17) Brady Tkachuk (Ott - LW)
He was my target and very happy I got him. A bit worried I'm missing out on a point per game player like Aho or Marner, but he gives such an advantage in SOG and Hits that I wanted to snatch him up. With an improving Ottawa team I hope the plus-minus evens out a bit. He went earlier in the Wales draft so maybe I wasn't reaching as much as I thought.

    3. (32) Jake Guentzel (Pit - LW,RW)
Debated Hedman here and now obviously wish I did since Guentzel has COVID. But the idea was to stack up on exactly what Pasta does well; Goals, PPP and SOG on a good team.

    4. (41) John Tavares (Tor - C)
Needed a C. Hopefully the catastrophic end to last season doesn't have any lingering effects. Once again I can bank on his Points, PPP and SOG on a good team.

    5. (56) Jacob Markstrom (Cgy - G)
Thought there might be a goalie run soon but with saves as a category I thought Markstrom was the last true #1. Easy decision for me and I think he's of huge value in this league.

    6. (65) Patrice Bergeron (Bos - C)
Cmon give me one more great year. Went in round 4 of the Wales so very happy he fell to me here. I know EP went earlier and he was on my list, but at the the end of the year I'm pretty certain Bergeron will finish ahead. Only thing I'm worried about is the wear and tear in an Olympic season.

    7. (80) Miro Heiskanen (Dal - D)
Don't love this as my #1 Dman. There was a run after my last pick; Pionk, Jones, Petry, McAvoy, AP, Chych, Rielly, Krug, Chabot all went. Had McAvoy lined up to give me a Bruins trio but he went a couple picks before. He's a great player but hasn't quite translated to fantasy ....yet.

    8. (89) Mike Smith (Edm - G)
Wanted another goalie. Might be a reach but again should be the main starter on a good team. Those extra few games will hopefully give me that boost in Saves and means I can use a roster spot somewhere else.

    9. (104) Brayden Schenn (StL - C,RW)
Kind of forgot about Hits since grabbing Brady. Will probably regret not taking Hyman here but still happy to get an all around contributor. Multi position eligibility never hurts.

    10. (113) Martin Necas (Car - C,RW)
Hoping the breakout continues! Had Sergachev lined up but thought he would have made it to my next pick.

    11. (128) Samuel Girard (Col - D)
Points, PPP and plus minus. Yes please. This team should be VERY good so just happy to get a piece.

    12. (137) Jack Hughes (NJ - C,LW)
Hoping the breakout happens. Very happy to get Hughes here.

    13. (152) Alec Martinez (VGK - D)
Probably another reach but I love the peripherals he brings. More points on a solid team.

    14. (161) Kaapo Kahkonen (Min - G)
People stopped taking goalies so I figured it was time to grab another one. Minnesota is a playoff team and he should see over 30 games.

    15. (176) Nico Hischier (NJ - C)
If he can finally stay healthy I think this is a big year for Nico.

    16. (185) Jaccob Slavin (Car - D)
Dougie left a big hole and I don't exactly trust Tony D to be a good soldier all season so maybe Slavin gets a bigger role? Happy to take him as my D3

    17. (200) John Gibson (Anh - G)
Another goalie? Yep. I know Anaheim should be pretty bad but he also might led the league in Saves.

    18. (209) Kyle Palmieri (NYI - LW,RW)
Feel like he was forgotten about here. It was between him and Hoffman (who went next) but figured I could use a few more Hits.

    19. (224) Denis Gurianov (Dal - LW,RW)
Not really sure how this lineup shakes out but I love this pick. I'd love to see where he went last season in a similar format. Realllllllllly thought Farabee would last until my next pick though.

    20. (233) Kirby Dach (Chi - C)
Lineup is basically filled out so taking a flyer on the comeback kid.

    21. (248) Brett Pesce (Car - D)
Meh. I'm sure he won't last too long but don't mind taking an early lead in plus/minus.

    22. (257) Thomas Greiss (Det - G)
I think he splits with Ned so to get him almost 10 rounds later is amazing.

    23. (272) Anthony Cirelli (TB - C,RW)
Hopefully a bigger role with some holes in the lineup.

    24. (281) Nicolas Hague (VGK - D)
Same idea. Good player on a good team.

    25. (296) Lucas Raymond (Det - LW)
    Lol. How could I not?

Even though I grabbed Brady I think I might struggle in Hits because I missed out on getting many other guys. Those are easy to fill in though so not too worried.

    Alright, here it goes...

1.4 - Nikita Kucherov. Toyed with the idea of Matthews here. But decided not to second guess myself. Kuch was the easy choice.

2.9 - Mitch Marner. Was targeting Aho or Svech here but both went a few picks before mine. Marner won't provide much perhipals but 90+ point floor is fine by me at the end of the second round

3.4 - Sidney Crosby. I wasn't sure if I wanted to take Kaprizov this high and I wanted a Center too. I'm hoping Sid only misses a few games to start the season, and I don't anticipate him slowing down any time soon

4.9 - JT Miller. I really wanted Seguin here, but alas he was sniped 2 picks before me. Miller gives me some hits here too. Top PP1 def have started to come off the board as well as a handful of goalies, thinking my next pick I'll have to address those

5.4 - Jordan Binnington. I feel like it's voodoo to draft a Blues goalie ever since I took Jake Allen with the No1 pick many years ago. But he hopefully won't be challenged for started and will rack up the wins and saves. Took Binnington based of his ADP hoping to grab another workhorse with my next pick

6.9 - Alex Pietrangelo. Cue goalie run to throw a wrench in my plan. After Binnington, went Talbot, Markstrom, Jarry, Igor, and MAF. No need to reach for a goalie now so time to address my empty back end. Pietro should stuff the cats even if he is fighting for PP time with Theodore

7.4 - Semyon Varlamov. Not a total fan of the perceived 50/50 time share. And getting more concerned he hasn't started skating yet, but wanted to get those goalie ratios to what is an outstanding system in NYI. I'm ok with Varly as my G2 as many of the goalies left on the board at this point we're all in some sort of timeshare

8.9 - Linus Ullmark. Stoked to grab him here. Especially with Swayman going 2 picks ahead of me. I learned last year that I didn't have enough goalies to meet my GP so it was something I needed to address. He's got the contract, and if he can stay healthy I believe it's his net to lose on a solid B's team

9.4 - Nick Suzuki. Give me those hits and hoping for continued improvement to his game. Top line, Top PP. Wish he would shoot more but I guess I can't be that greedy.

10.9 - Tony DeAngelo. Kind of missed the def boat when I was taking goalies. Decided to go for point/pp production here over peripherals. And hoping he keeps his mouth shut all year. I'm not confident the later happens but worth the risk in round 10

11.4 - Ryan Strome. Way eyeing Teravanien but missed out. Strome offers a 70 point floor while attached to Panarin. I'm content

12.9 - Nicklas Backstrom. Swinging for the fences here. He has the game that won't necessarily fall off a cliff, besides, always attached to Ovie. Banking on the pp and point production here. Still week-to-week, so that's not great...

13.4 - Matt Dumba. Need more def. Thought about Dahlin but actually thought he might slide another round due to just Buffalo (did not, went 2 picks later). I know I need more hits - plus maybe Dumba decides he wants to be the player of 2 years ago and just starts tearing it up offensively (one can hope)

14.9 - Dylan Larkin. I really like his potential and hoping on some sort of bounceback. Not sure why his hits/game, sog, and point production continue to decline though. Maybe the young guns in Det will start to show earlier than expected and help out. Also not thrilled to find out Vrana was out 4 months like 20 min after making this pick

15.4 - Jacob Trouba. Purely for cat stuffing. Not real excited about this pick but it's time to address the team needs

16.9 - Jared McCann. Wanted Tatar, no such luck. McCann should get the opportunity in Seattle and I'm hoping he capitalizes on it. Plus he hits, can't be all that bad right?

17.4 - Jake Voracek. Top minutes and pp, plus/minus might be a concern. But if i snagged a 70 point player in the 17th round I'll be ecstatic. Was considering Faulk here too but thought I could wait (could not, went with the next pick)

18.9 - Blake Coleman. Looking at Beauviller but he went a few picks before me. Coleman should bring the hits up to where I know I'm lacking. I also feel like his game is a perfect fit for the Suter system

19.4 - Eeli Tolvanen. He started showing promise toward the end of last year and I'm banking on that continuing. He really doesn't shoot at all so I'm a little disappointed there, but brings the goals, PPP, and hits!

20.9 - Dmitry Orlov. Hits hits hits, plus if he can throw 200 pucks on net this year and not take a +/- hit I'm happy

21.4 - Damon Severson. I needed another def. Not a sexy pick and might be the first to go. but maybe i'm wrong

22.9 - Chris Driedger. Def showed he was capable last year, Seattle was ready to lean on him until Grub became available. Will be ready to take over once Grub gets hurt again. Hoping 4 goalies is enough to hit the GP

23.4 - Nick Leddy. I think he has a solid shot at taking the no1 pp qb job this year. Hoping the double up on Det players doesn't do me in for plus/minus. 40 pt def in round 23 seems like good value

    24. 9 - Craig Smith. I like what I saw from him towards the end of last year. I know Krecji is gone, but maybe Smith rolls into that PP1 slot? A guy can dream right

25.4 - Jason Zucker. Low expectations here. But maybe he'll stick with Sid

I'm hoping 4 goalies is enough to get what I need for the year. I think I might be missing some Goals / SOG this year too. Biggest thing I learned is when I believed I could wait on some players that didn't pan out.
