    Default Ben Bishop injury status

Surprised by this note on his Yahoo profile.

"Ben Bishop (knee) is hoping to play in at least one preseason game.

That being said, Bishop hasn't been cleared to play yet and there isn't a firm timetable for his return. Still, he was on the ice for the start of training camp so progress is being made. “I don’t feel rusty,” Bishop said. “It’s more just getting that strength and trust back in that knee. It’s been a long time. You can take shots all you want, but as far as battling through screens and whatnot and getting that trust back in the leg, it’s more the hurdle you have to get over. As far as hand-eye and feeling it, I feel like I haven’t missed a beat.”

Super curious to see what DAL does to get under the cap if they're not going to put Bishop on LTIR.

I'm not seeing any 'obvious' pieces for demotion/trade that get them under.

They spread out to 3 more-balanced scoring lines to start the pre-season. Maybe showcasing someone?

As PMorrow noted in a different thread - if indeed Bishop is 'ready' - he's a beauty sleeper that no one is talking about right now.

I think that has to be it - look to trade for some relief.

I'd rather see it before I believe it. As others have said, if Dallas felt he was close, they'd probably move a piece to get cap compliant.

After two years away, Bishop could be a fantastic sleeper or he might turn into a pumpkin. He's almost 35 too.

That Holtby signing was even more idiotic now.

Khudobin, Holtby, Bishop, and Oettinger are their goalies. No way should Oettinger be in the AHL too.

I expect him to play this year unless his recovery takes an unusual twist or Dallas persuade him to stay out for cap reasons. He should be fully recovered from his injury and be fully rehabbed and trained at some point. My guess is we see him in early 2022. I imagine Dallas will keep him on LTIR until they can find a trade for Holtby.

I didn't put much thought into it when I picked him up to stash on IR, but the Yahoo update made it seem like he'd be ready sooner. Took Khudobin late or as a FA in both my leagues, otherwise I'd just steer clear of the mess entirely.

Anyone who follows Dallas closely know if the move today to assign Oettinger to the AHL is going to be long / short term? As someone who got backed into drafting the Stars goalies, I’m wondering if I sit tight with Oettinger, or drop him for Holtby (and risk someone else grabbing and stashing Oettinger).

Oettinger has to stay there until a roster spot opens up. As long as Khudobin and Holtby are on Dallas' roster and healthy, Oettinger is going to stay in the AHL. It is possible that Dallas would carry 3 goalies, but today's move suggests that they would rather not.
