I'd be willing to grab him in a start 1G league there, and just figure stuff out, but my last initial draft was a long, long time ago.
I would for sure consider taking Vasy at 6 in a start 1G league! But in a start 2 league like this one I'm taking a player.

    I don‘t understand that!

In a start 2 league a good goalie is more important than in a start 1 league?

So why would you take him in a start 1 but not in a start 2?

Start 2 you are probably rostering more goalies. Devaluing individual goalies.
Spending above opponent draft selections for goalies lowers your draft capital on skaters who hold larger amount of categories.

Now you can actually fight for goalie volume categories with not actually having more goalies.

good choice, imo. Always a safe bet to get Vasi! He's all world on an incredible team, and strikes me as an incredibly safe pick (I also LOVE watching him play)! Well done. As pengwin mentioned, when it reduces to 1 goalie, there are way more goalies available, generally speaking.. so it's less needed that you take one so early. But even in a dress 1g I personally think Vasi is a fine pick :P. What better player in that position to fill that spot . So for dress 2G it's a very good choice to snag the best goalie option earlier . Good luck!

So this why I don't first round pick a goalie.

    Last seasons stats.
    stats.JPG

Tied. I just negated your 1st round pick with my whatever round Varly went.
When dealing with goalies I look for those that will give solid rate stats that I can get in the later rounds.
Going for rates, means you can get away with just two goalies, rostering more skaters which compounds in the fact all skater stats are counting stats.
I don't think I need to show stats comparing a first round player to a 5-6th whatever round Varly goes in player.

I'm not saying to wait and pick Varly - this is a dynasty draft after all.
But strategy just cuts Vasy out for me.

The issue there is that you just used 1 goalie, but there are way more teams out there - it's not a head to head.

I don't know what you are expecting the other teams to do to affect this situation any.

They run only 2 goalies like you - you can stream a goalie (if your volume cats are going well) for some spot starts to try and win the volume cats while battling for skater stats.
They run 3 goalies - you have rostered the extra skater and win the skater stats winning the matchup.

If you want to win a Presidents trophy you can just (I don't actually suggest doing this except for fun) run all skaters no goalies (assuming you straight drafted no goalies). You just straight win skater categories - teams don't want to drop their goalies.
Rostering that many players does lose effectiveness as you can't get all the games played in.
Playoffs don't go that well though as teams will now start to counter you by just hitting min goalie starts then maximizing player starts. (idk if not hitting your goalie min starts would also mean you lose the shutout cat or if you still tie).

Really like what you are saying but i never drafted a Goalie thag high…but i never played in a league like that tbh 

    Draft Guru yes or no?
I just drafted a very similar league a few weeks ago and I picked 11th in a snake draft. I went for goalies early and I don't regret it all. Ended up with Hellebuyck, Lehner, Kuemper. If nothing else I have some incredibly valuable trade capital. My default strategy is usually to draft by positional scarcity, and try to make up for any deficiencies by targeting players with multi-positional eligibility or very strong peripheral cats.
