Trade Question

I'm going into this new season with the following keepers:

3 Yr - Quinn Hughes
2 Yr - Draisaitl
1 Yr - Seguin
1 Yr - Hall
R - Byfield

My picks are as follows: 1, 2, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8.

I got offered the following:

My Drasaitil + Knight (no room to keep) for:
His Pettersson + Kaprisov + 3rd (2021)

I will have flexibility after this coming season with both Seguin and Hall expiring, however picking up 2 keepers for 1 would mean I'd have to try and shed a contract before this season.

I think Petey and Kaprisov would set me up well for the future, I would essentially sign 1 of these guys to 4 and the other to 2, since Petey is a 2 at the moment, and Kaprisov has no contract, so can top up Petey and sign Kaprisov to whatever is open.

I'm giving up a 4 + fp/g for 2 guys around 3, but who have upside for more..

Thoughts on the value? There is no rush to move Drais, basically Byfield didn't burn rookie status this past season, so I can carry him into this season, then next, then after 22/23 basically sign him to 2 year max contract based on rookie rules, so long as I'm @ 4 keepers total including him.

Who knows if via the draft in a Keep 4 + rookie carry-over if I'll find someone keeper worthy, or if I'll find someone keeper worthy dangling Seguin/Hall on expiring deals.

If I couldn't move Hall for a pick, I don't love the idea of spending 50$ to buy out Hall, I'd rather have Hall/Draisaitl than Petey/Kaprisov + pick at least for right now.

I can also hang onto Draisaitl and trade him in season the next 2 years or in the off-season after he expires for say a MacKinnon type.

For me, if you want to win this year you do not move Draisaitl. If you want to plan for the future, take your chances, then perhaps Kaprizov and Petey are the way to go. Unless there is a reason that I'm not aware of that impacts your chances of winning this year then I'm not taking this deal. The combination of Draisaitl and Hall/Seguin this year will be more productive than that of Kaprizov and Pettersson IMO. Beyond that, well who knows, it could swing the other way for sure but that's down the road and not a given.

I love the upside of EP and KK but hard to justify giving up Draisaitl. Proven vs. potential... this is a tough one but if my competing window is in the next 1-3 years I am holding Draisaitl.

The fact that you're forced to make a drop if you accept it ruins it for me. I was thinking about it until I saw that. In a league that's very scoring-centric, Draisatl is going to payoff huge.

I might still be intrigued though if the other GM wanted to give you a 1st instead of that 3rd.

He upped the offer to a 2nd rounder, and regarding the drop, it is actually a trade or buyout, can't drop a contracted player.

If you have to drop one of Hall or Seguin its not worth it imo, Dry + one of Seguin or Hall is better then Petty and Kirill. Depends on if you think you can win now or rebuild as selling Dry is a rebuilding move. Even with the 2nd i'm not so sure i would move if i still have a team that can win THIS season

Yeah - I’d stick to the “best player in the deal” idea and keep Draisatl.
