Default Please help me evaluate trade....

    Hey folks,
Needing some help to evaluate trade, I am leaning on accepting, but wanted some opinions.

    To Me:
N.Schmaltz (975k this year, 5.8m next and beyond)
    E.Bouchard (873k next 3 years)
    2nd 2022 Draft

    To GM:
Wheeler (last year on contract for me - 5.6m then goes into auction)
    Barrie (3.75m next 3 years)

Barrie is the piece im nervous about, but my team can't win this year.

    Thanks

A yes from me given the parameters you’ve set out - particularly not competing this year. This is a big win for the future.

I like Bouchard and the pick but Schmaltz seems like a bit of a dead weight that will difficult if not impossible to move in the future. I would insist on something else there, even if it's a pick. Wheeler and Barrie are both on pretty friendly contracts so it shouldn't be crazy to get something more. I'm not super hyped about your prospect pool either, there's some nice pieces but I would say it's lacking some star potential. This further highlights the need to get value from the veterans you have.

Yeah, that isn't enough for Barrie alone, imo, and Wheeler still has more value than that right now. I like Bouchard a lot, but it might be some time till he's putting up fantasy relevant numbers, simply because he's behind Barrie and the coach doesn't seem to trust him yet. Nick Schmaltz is a big no for me... he's a fine player but that team is in full rebuild and it's very unlikely he'll be worth his contract next season.

So, big no for me personally.

Simply put you are giving up two bonafide NHL stars for a decent rookie defencment, a bag of pucks and likely another bag of pucks. I get that you are motivated to do this but this is not a fair trade for you at all. Does this other guy have a another blue chip prospect, a 1st round pick? Unless you are absolutely desperate here, hard pass, you can and should do better.

    Thanks all....

it all makes sense and seems consensus is to pass, which the more i look into Schmaltz, at average 50 pts per season, and close to 6m next year, not a good move.

Also, I think you should expect a huge return for Barrie to anyone who is competing next season. He led defenseman in points last season and has a ridiculous contract.. He should carry A TON of value to any competing team.

Good choice. Schmaltz is nowhere near what you should be getting for 2 NHL point producers. Gotta get way more back for those 2 guys. Bouchard is a start. Good luck.

Schmaltz is likely the player the OGM is trying to rid himself of. Good pass IMO. I’m interested why Tweetdrivr feels like Schmaltz represents a “Big win” for you’re future. I totally get Bouchard. But Schmaltz will be grossly over paid for what he brings now and in the future IMO. Good pass imo
