Crosby or Laine (rep!)

Both are expiring contracts and I can only keep 1 of them.
Max 4 expired contracts.
Lock: MacKinnon, Kucherov and Rantanen

Goals are worth double assists.

Laine was obviously brutal last year but now that Torts is gonzo, I'm thinking even if he doesn't have a great center that he will score lots....35goals....60pts maybe?

Crosby is much older....the pens are already on the decline. With this latest wrist surgery I've gone from screw it I'll keep Crosby another few years....to now thinking just keep Laine and hope he rips it up or gets traded.

I had plans to just keep Crosby 1 more year and replace him with barzal but now I'm thinking of dropping barzal and keeping petry...who was just amazing for my 1st place team last year. Owe it to my great D. Want to keep 3 good D, seems to be the winning formula.

We don't trade draft picks. It's important to add that it's been impossible to trade Crosby...no one wants to trade for him but everyone thinks I should keep him instead of Laine.

Thoughts?

Tough one here...proven production of Crosby is hard to ignore if looking to contend this season. If you're looking to the future and want to take a chance I like Laine, he has the potential and should be given every opportunity this year to produce.

Crosby easily, even with injury.

Until he proves otherwise, that his rookie+1 years weren't anomalies, Laine sucks. Like legitimately sucks. Up to him to change that. Not sure he has the attitude to bother.

Crosby over Laine all day. Sid has more motivation in his little finger than Laine has in his whole body and has never been below ppg his whole career. I expect he’ll continue to outproduce Laine for years to come.

If it's all about this year, then Crosby... guy is still producing and still a goal-scorer.

It's not all about this year....more like the next 3 years until j find an elite option to keep instead. If Laine puts up 40 this year, there is no wah I'll own him again. I was ready to give up but once the Crosby wrist surgery and miss a few games I started reconsidering. Pens are only going to get worse.

Yeah, it's still Crosby though. You have to do some really optimistic prognosticating to see Laine being close to equal with Crosby for the foreseeable future. Even if you think Crosby won't be in your long term plans he would still have better trade value at the very least.

I get that Laine has the potential to be extremely valuable in this type of league but come on, this is Crosby. Don't overthink it. Can't you simply re-draft Laine in your draft if you want to hope for a bounceback?

Good arguments on both sides, but Crosby is the better choice. If Laine puts it all together and becomes the player everyone thought he would be, then Laine would be the right pick. But at the present moment, how likely is that? Is he going to consistently achieve, or yo-yo depending on whether he tries hard that year? With Crosby you know what you're getting, even if in decline.

Well, when Laine scored 44 goals (with a WAY better team and PP) in 2017-18 he only had 26 assists, so that's 206 points total in your league (best case scenario). Crosby last season paced for 37 goals and 57 assists which is 243.5 points in your league. So, even taking Laine's best season in Winnipeg, Crosby outscored him by 37.5 points last year (albeit, pacing). We'll see how much time he misses but I don't really think it matters. This is Crosby.
