    Default Nurse for Ty Smith

    LEAGUE DETAILS BELOW:

I have offer on table of Ty Smith for Darnell Nurse. Possible I would need to add a small sweetener but might be able to swing a 1 for 1. I really like Smith, but see he is log jammed now...My perception of Nurse is that he's been a reliable defensive D, which is not in line with my points only format..but it looks like he is being ranked higher than players like Ekblad on the Top 120 Defensive Keepers and i suppose even with Barrie taking PP1, Nurse should be a 40 point lock in EDM for the future?

Do you feel Smith and Nurse are similar upside? Is this a no brainer then? Or hold out on Smith / cream rises to the top?

(PS. The other manager is also interested in my Laine for S.Reinhart, but I think I'm going to shut that down and see what Laine can do this year. His upside seems much higher than Reinhart?)

Points only keeper dynasty. My team is coming out of a rebuild, i have the players to start pushing for a win for the next few years.

Every week we play 12 fwds / 6 D / 1 Goalie. We also have a bench of approx 11 players and 2 goalies who we can switch out weekly.

    My best players are:

    Sebastian Aho / B Point / Johnny Gaudreau / Lafraniere / Laine / M.Stone / A Svechnikov / Teravainen / R.Strome

Dahlin / Chabot / Ty Smith / Gustaffson.

    Hellebyuck / Samsonov in net

My D drop depth is Calen Adison, Sean Walker, Myers, Gardiner. Hoping Adison will turn in to a solid D but essentially i am playing Walker / Myers / E. Gustaffson every week, switching out as required, based on schedule or hot streaks.

My fwd drop depth consists of playing Mikheyev, Anders Lee, Tom Wilson, J.Drouin depending on the week ahead

It is true that for points only, Nurse is probably unconsciously being rated higher than he should because in all other formats, he is a monster. That being said, Smith is talented but likely blocked for years from difference making production. And he has yet to prove anything in the NHL, while Nurse is exactly what he is right now. I'd lean toward making the deal and then turning Nurse around to someone else for something better than Ty Smith to capitalize on the overestimation of Nurse's scoring.

Might it be worth it to offer Ty Smith + another asset for Ekblad? Is Ekblad a true step up over Nurse in a points format?

Theres a possibility Ty Smith plays well enough to earn some of these lost minutes back...if he can be a 40 point defender this year, i don't see any reason to make any of these moves..Hard time gauging what Ty Smith's potential might be for the next 1-2 years with D.Hamilton there.

I think we can safely presume that NJ is going to run with Hamilton on PP1 for the foreseeable future, with Ty Smith, when he establishes himself as a regular, getting PP2 time. Also, it isn't like the Devils team at the moment is overflowing with scorers to fully fill out two PP units. NJ looks to have the pieces for a good PP1 unit and then whatever is left makes up PP2. So even if Smith gets PP2 time, NJ needs their younger players like Holtz, etc. to round out the special teams. After Hughes, Hischier, Tatar, Bratt, and Hamilton (?) we've got Zacha, Sharangovich, and whatever else I can't remember.

Go for Ekblad if you can. I wouldnt target Nurse with Barrie in town.

in points only im keeping Smith...i think Nurse will out point him for year or 2 maybe but not by much...yes Ty will not be running PP1 in NJ but nurse will not run PP1 in edmonton and PP2 for just about any team in a league will get more time and opportunity then one in Edmonton. Smith also got upside, where nures is what he is....if this was multicat this be easy win but its not so keep what you got imo.

Dobber projects Nurse for 51 and Ekblad for 50 but I really think Ekblad could go for more being on that Florida unit without Yandle. I bet you'll have an easier time getting Ekblad and so should go for him when they're at least equal.
