Default Last Keeper Help - Trochek, PIetrangelo, Backstrom

    Hey Guys,

    Second league in sig.

Keep 7 (1 goalie). Debating on my last keeper

    For sures are..

    Vaislevskiy
    Kucherov
    Marner
    Panarin
    Huberdeau
    Zibanajed

Narrowed it down and debating between the following

Pietrangelo - Give me a D keeper, solid points/shots/and blocks - - - - not the top D on Vegas anymore, declining slightly as he ages

Backstrom - Totally reliable. Almost a lock for 75-80 points with great PP - - - - Assist heavy, not many other peripherals, getting a bit older

    Trochek - Great multi-cat upside. - - - - Not a top offensive option, injury risk

Assuming you have to start D i’d pretty easily keep Pietrangelo here. Otherwise, you’ve got so much firepower at forward on PPPs and such that Id keep Trocheck or even better Couturier over Backstrom for much broader category coverage.

I'm going to eliminate Backstrom here right up front. As you stated, very one dimensional. However, I don't think the CAPS are going to have the incredibly high octane offense that they did in the past. I actually like Dobber's projection for Backstrom at 71 pts. Not terrible by any means but with the lack of peripherals there are arguably better options. It would be nice to have a defencemen as a keeper and I'll suggest that you might want to consider Pulock as a better option than AP. AP's scoring has declined, we all know that, but so have his blocks (still OK) but the hits are down significantly from what they once were. I would recommend you look at the numbers here and compare the two. I like Pulock over AP and at 26 Pulock is just hitting his prime. Which brings us to Trochek who is a very nice multi cat option but yes, the injury risk is always a concern. Still, in your format Trocek has great value if he can limit the games lost to injury to 10 -15. That's realistic IMO.

Others may not agree, but I'm going Pulock and Trochek.

It’s a good point about Pulock, he should do the comparison. I think i’d still keep AP but it’s an interesting take.

I'm going to go with Trochek.

I agree with the assessment on Pietrangelo but I personally wouldn't want Pulock either. Pulock has never impressed me, he has a great shot but everything else seems about average. I think it's only a matter of time before someone else steals that job, whether it's Dobson or maybe one of Salo, Aho, Bolduc.

Also have a question for the OP: When you said "1 goalie" does that mean you're only allowed to keep 1? I'm assuming that's right but wanted to make sure because those are actually the most attractive keeper options

    Thanks for the assessments guys

Bang on what I'm thinking about Backstrom and he's only in my head because of the past name value that he has carried....but I agree - he's out.

Didn't really think about Pulock vs. AP. I was excited to draft Pulock last year but his offense really let me down. Isles are a great team and he's got good peripherals but with little in the way of offensive contribution is he worth the keep - - - - I will definitely do a closer comparison though. Great to open the eyes.

For Trochek, again, exactly what I've been thinking. His injury concerns are scary but can give great return - - I grabbed him off the wire last year and he was money for me.

For goalies. Yes. We are able to only keep 1 goalie. Otherwise Lehner would be with me.

Thanks for all the points and different points of view!

I’d take Pietrangelo here. Solid shots and blocks, gets points and will play a ton. You have enough F scoring in your keepers already, so keeping a reliable D works well for you here. Trochek will be available in your draft, but solid D scoring tends to go quickly. Pulock as well I think can be drafted a bit later, as he had a down year last year offensively (or at least I think most believed he was going to score a bit more). He could be a solid target later to round out your blue line.

Pietrangelo may be behind Theodore, but he since Vegas plays two PP units pretty evenly it is not a huge knock. Plus, as others say, Alex puts up great peripherals and is a good goal scorer. Plus Pietrangelo is just now just warming up to his new team. He only managed 4 PP last year. All assists. He is due for a positive regression there for sure.

    I like him for almost 50 points this season and great peripherals. 12 G - 39 A.
