Default Have to let one go: Connor or Svechnikov

Points only, competing this year but always considering future years.

Only have one keeper spot left and I have to make this brutal Sophie's choice between keeping:

K Connor at 7.143 mil for 5 more years

    or

A Svechnikov at 7.75 for 8 more years

Almost a proven vs. potential choice but I love both players.

Anybody able to help make this easier? Thanks.

Oof, that's a tough one. I think I'd take the lower cost for 5 years, as who really knows what will be going on in your league 6 years from now. Take the savings and benefit from them all the other seasons.
    12 Team Keep 6: G/A:1 W/SO:2
    C - McDavid, Matthews, Schiefele
    LW - Draisaitl, Fiala, Meier
    RW - Marner, Barzal, Zuccarello
D - Dahlin, Morrissey, Dunn, Matheson
    G - Skinner
B - Marchessault, Caufield, Teravainen, McCann, Montour, Jones, Saros

    12 Team Keep 10 (& 5 Minors)
    : G/A/OTL:1 W:2 SO:3

Strangely my first question is "How long has this league been in existence?" Doing something to gain value in years 6-8 isn't crazy if the league is stable enough, but it's a big if. I'd love to know who the other 7 are, but I see you are playing coy with your sig.

Hey the league has been going at least 10 years, its all close friends so I think it'll keep going in perpetuity.

Honestly I just wrote the contract lengths out of habit but in reality I look 1-3 years ahead max. I dont really care that Svech's contract is longer as 5 years from now my team could look completely different. In hindsight I probably should have just posted this thread in the main forum as the salaries are close enough to be a wash for me. It's more of a "who do you like better" question at this point.

    My other prospective keepers are:

    Drai 8.5
    Ziba 5.35
    Laf .925
    Scheif 6.125

    Theo 5.2
    Makar 9

    Vasi 9.5

My only other move I can think of is letting Ziba go since he will get a bloated contract after this season, but I want to compete this year and his contract now provides so much value its hard to walk away from.

In a points-only, this is really really close. I'm slightly a bigger fan of Svechnikov but that's mostly because of his all-around value compared to Connor.

I'd personally go with Svech but I don't think there's a bad decision either way.

Any way you can package them both for an upgrade?

Given the further info, it's too close to call, so whichever one you prefer is fine. Sorry to give no opinion, but sometimes, there's just no clear right or wrong answer.

Connor. Total wash on points, who knows, take the cheaper contract. Sometimes we over think things and only make matters worse. For this year, not 18 down the road, I'm taking Connor (:
