    Default 2023 Pick

Was recently offered Jason Robertson for my 1st Round Entry pick in 2023. I know for a fact that my team will not be all that great for a few more seasons unless everything is completely revamped. The other manager is trying to get a top 5 pick from that draft year which mine will more than likely easily be. With the depth of that draft am I crazy to sit on my pick and hope to land additional young talent or should I make the move? Thoughts? For the league in my signature - added note the top 3-5 teams in the league are pretty set for at the very least a few more seasons and it'll be tough to crack that grouping.

The top two players in that draft (Bedard, Michkov) are worth tanking your team for - if you are not a VERY competitive team in your league.
Looking at your roster - not good enough to be top 8 probably.
So, you want to start tanking your team.

The next year (for a shot at Shane Wright) and following (for Bedard or Michkov) you want to have those 1st round picks.
Do not sell them for ANYTHING.

The keen GMs in fantasy leagues are already looking at trying to take those for their "hot" offerings - like Jason Robertson.
    You just say no.
    Hold that pick.

Look to sell Perron, Ullmark, Khudobin, Kuznetsov... at some point this year when they are scorching hot.
You are building a team for the 2023-24 season.
Ideally, you get Shane Wright (2022) and one of Bedard/Michkov (2023) and then you start competing.

I know it's hard to tank & wait... but if you are not high-level (and you are NOT)...
Then this should be your plan.

i havent spend my time too much on that draft class yet, so im not sure what is there after top 2 but oh man if your pick is top 2 that would definitely look like a horrible move. Michkov just signed 5 year deal i think in KHL so will be a while before he comes over but he is as hyped as Ovechkin was ...very good talent..and Bedard maybe his Crosby...or better

keep the pick...Bedard and Michkov are going to be sensational.

Michkov may not come over to the NHL for a while, but he will be worth the wait.

There's also another young player for 2023 starting to get some major hype as well, so it "could" be a three-horse race. Still a bit early to say that for certain, but regardless it is best to keep the pick.

If you're not good right now, don't sell future firsts, unless you're getting a guy who is absolutely good enough to be a cornerstone player.

I hate trading my own future firsts even while good, due to never knowing when injuries or bad luck will strike, but I've come around to being okay with dealing them only for the next upcoming draft.

If you haven't drafted yet this year, moving a pick for a full round upgrade in a later year is often a good idea.
