Default Ty Smith for Josh Norris

    Team in sig.

Traded Ty Smith for Norris and a very nice pick upgrade - 20th overall will get me a solid young player like Nick Robertson or Max Comtois, or a young D like Valimaki.

Very tough to trade Smith, but I love what Ottawa is building towards and Josh Norris is a key piece in that. I believe he’ll get primo PP1 time and, while he’s clearly the distributor to Tkachuk and Batherson, he has a terrific shot which should get him his fair share of goals. He’s a perfect complement to my solid if unspectacular C trio of Tavares, Trocheck, Larkin. Not sure if he’ll be a high SOG guy like them (love Cs who bring high G / SOG stats) but should be decent.

Meanwhile, despite the Hamilton signing, I think Smith will continue to do well in Jersey - maybe even share PP1 duties. A bit nervous about this one for that reason.

    Thoughts?

Josh Norris is an excellent player... and the C1 spot on the Senators is looking firmly his right now.
(Stuetzle may get a shot there, but I think we can say Colin White has flamed himself out).

I like Ty Smith - but NJ roadblocked him hard with Hamilton.
I see no world in the next 3 years where they go with Smith on PP1 over Hamilton.

    Great, great move.
There's so many article on the internet about Ty Smith's potential in NJ... and most of them haven't been updated to reflect the Hamilton impact.
So moving Smith now - before season opens - is brilliant move.

I agree with Pengwin for the exact reasons he stated. Norris keeps getting better and better. Great move.

As a Ty Smith owner, I sadly admit that you made a good move.

I was SOOO pumped about Smith until the Hamilton signing. I will keep him myself because I can't likely get anything for him in our league.

well if you go back to last year...he started so good...but second half he was pretty weak. If he continued on that pace from first month or so maybe they would not have signed Hamilton.

Thanks guys, receiving validation after a move is always sweet, but especially coming from this illustrious group.

Rep given except Belexus, will get you as soon as I spread some more around.

Even if Smith had kept up his early-season pace all year, the Devils should have signed Hamilton. You don't pass on a chance to sign a stud dman like Hamilton.

I really like this trade; more so if say you can draft Comtois or Robertson.

    Well done.

Will Ty Smith be a liability in shot-blocking? That's a big deal for defensemen in this type of league.

    Norris doesn't have that problem.

Yeah that’s another knock. I doubt he’ll ever be more than a mediocre shot blocker - if he gets to PP1 and starts bringing PPPs like a Quinn Hughes, who cares, but otherwise it hurts. I see him as a Ryan Ellis type back in the heyday of Nashville’s D when he was a good offensive dman on the 2nd pairing of a stacked Preds D, that’s not bad at all for say a no 3-4 fantasy dman but it’s not a good no 1 or no 2 fantasy dman (save that magical season where he put up 38 in 49 or whatever). Difference is Ellis brought some significant blocks contributions.

BTW Norris had 34 blocked shots in 56 games his rookie season, playing 16 minutes a night. That’s excellent for a forward.

Yup same. My only hope is that Dougie goes all weird on them like he has on other teams and gets traded out.

Good trade for you OP, I would have done the same given the chance.

Gotta love to see this - one timer bomb on the PP:

And another one, this time off a turnover on the PP - Norris can snipe it:
