One way to get around the odd number is for everyone to play everyone else every week. Otherwise somebody gets 2 games 1 week.

I know that there are fantasy football schedule generators out there which will handle odd numbers of teams, usually by having a dummy team set to the average score. It's been a while since I played football, but I think footballguys.com may have one. You can work backwards from the number of weeks in the NHL season that you want to use, and get a setup for either an 11 game regular season so you rotate through each team, plus the dummy, or another number that divides well.

My league that has mostly manual commishing uses Excel to generate the schedule. If you're good with Excel, I can explain how to do it there.

Thanks Steve...this isn't for me (and I'm not good with Excel either). Our commish has been asking around, so I thought I'd check with the community here. We have one manager taking a leave of absence this year, so creating a schedule for our normal 12-team league is proving challenging for the commish.

    Jeebus, 11 teams.
    Personally, I like simple.
So I'd create a 12th dummy team, no players, no stats.
[Or, listed players that aren't actually going to make an NHL team as "dummy roster fills"]

Then set up a 22-week schedule where every team plays every other team exactly twice. 11x2
Each team gets two "token-wins" when they play the dummy team.

After much research, the commish ended up going with a 12-team schedule, creating one dummy team that actually gets the average score of all the other teams in any given week. If you score above league average, you win against the dummy team. Clean and simple.

Glad he worked it out. That's the easy way. Make sure you have a process to handle ties, just in case.

As always, ties are ties in our league during the regular season H2H battles. We have well-established tie-breaking criteria in place for playoff rounds and for determining which teams advance to the playoffs, if there is a tie in the standings.

Thanks again for your help/suggestions. The league has been around for a very long time with the same members. Unfortunately one of our members needs to step aside for a year due to personal reasons, but he will be back. Just a small hiccup that we will work through now that we have a schedule to work with.

    yep...we use Fantrax.

Just started, actually. We used CBSSportsline (paid service) for years, but just switched to Fantrax. I'm not involved with Fantrax, so don't know the options/features. Our commish dug around a bit and figured out how to do it with Frantrax. I gotta say, for anyone not using Fantrax, it is a really awesome product.
