Without considering contracts, Hintz is the pick. Maybe Boldy is the better long term play but Hintz was excellent last season and there is no reason to think it was a fluke.
Hello everyone. Need some draft advice for my dynasty league. Weekly H2H counting goals, assists, pts, +/- and save %. Start 12F, 6D, 2G. Farm team doesn't count against cap until put on roster.
We have a 5 player free agent draft starting this week and need help targeting the right players. I have to drop a bunch of players because in our inaugural draft last year I tried to go for the win (almost got it) and took on a bunch of 1 year contracts. So I'm very tight against the cap and I need to find small salary players that could possibly help me this year. I think at offense I'm somewhat set but need a third goalie for sure and probably some help on D. (Have to also drop 1 of Sergachev or Hronek).
Here are some options available. I am 4th to pick.
Matthew Boldy
Roope Hints
Ryan Srome
Yegor Sharangovich
Jarnkrok
Jack Roslovic
Colin Blackwell
Shane Pinto
Calen Addison
Scott Perunovich
Pierre-Olivier Joseph
Conor Timmins
Alexander Alexeyev
Keith Yandle
Swayman
Vanecek
Smith
Josef Korenar (ARZ)
Daniel Vladar (CGY)
Filip Gustavsson (OTT)
I'm leaning towards picking either Addison or Perunovich in the first round since my greatest need seams to be D (I think). But Boldy is also very interesting if he falls to me.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yeah as much as I love Boldy long-term it's hard not to take Hintz here at 3.1 mil for 2 more seasons.. I don't think any of those D are worth more than Hintz. Although if Yandle sticks on pp1 in Philly.. for 900k he'll be ridiculous cost per point. (his even strength play with Vigneault as coach scares me though)
Regarding your thoughts, I think Addison is probably closer to pp1 than Perunovich, although Spurgeon had great stats as pp1 to end last season. I really like Addison though.
Anyways, my top pick is Hintz if you want to compete this year. Boldy long term because he'll be hard to get once he starts rolling. Addison for the long-term play on D, and probably Yandle for this season at that cap hit.
I'm a huge Boldy fan but I have a really hard time not taking Hintz here! (proven talent and when healthy can be almost PPG, on a ridiculous contract for 2 years)
edit: in response to what Nico said below, I would have recommended Strome as another option for this season only I just think he'll be signing for 6+ next year which decreases his value for me. You'd be getting Hintz here for two seasons at that price!
Points wise, Hintz and Strome are miles ahead of anyone else. On D, Yandle is your best bet.
Long term, I like Boldy and Roslovic up front and on D, I like Addison.
It's up to you on if you want to go young and probably cheaper but less productive or older and slightly more expensive but productive.
Hintz
Strome
Roslovic
Boldy

How you draft is based on whether you think you are strong enough to go for the win or are clearly a year or two out and need to build. Yandle and Hintz are your win now guys IMO. Boldy and Addison are some nice building blocks.

If you are going for the win again this year, I like Ryan Strome.
Roope Hintz is the pick longer term.
If those two guys are gone, I'd queue up:
*Sharangovich (great production for $2m)
*Yandle (I think he'll be PHI PP1... and at only $0.9m, wow)
If you want a long-range player:
*Boldy
*Addison
*Swayman
Most rookies though, that first year and two... not much production.
I'm a Swayman believer though... and think he wrangles the BOS G1 job from Ullmark.
Strome is tops for me. Or Hintz, but his injury/surgery concerns me a little. Strome is unpopular because of his development curve but he's been crushing it on one of the most stacked lineups in the league recently.
The problem with picking Perunovich or Addison is they might not do much for the next few years.
