Probably the best case scenario for the Habs. But even if it works out for them in the end, let's not forget how they put themselves in this mess to begin with. It's been a weird off-season for them.

I'm looking forward to McIndoe writing his yearly Bizzaro Off-season rankings column. Habs and Canes should feature high enough!

definite over payment. However, I suspect we see a 3 or 4 year extension at a more reasonable number bring the AAV to a more reasonable number long term.

Have fun negotiating an extension with Dundon, KK!

Kidding, I like Kk, good kid, wish him the best.

But not kidding, Dundon’s cheap ass antics are going to be the ruin of this team sooner than later. The Nedelkjovic move was asinine, not signing Hamilton then going for “bargain” DeAngelo…

If you believe Friedman, the extension has already been discussed and agreed on in principle.

Carolina might be one of a handful of teams I wouldnt trust when it comes to a gentlemans agreement but the guy can walk as UFA if they deem he isnt worth the ''wink wink'' extension

2 years at 3-3.5M$ or 3 years at 3.5M$-4M$ would've been fair in my mind.

Yeah I know, was just trying to make a point of how Dundon is a cheap-ass owner. That said others of that ilk (looking at you Jeremy Jacobs) have managed to ice successful teams. But I still think the Ned and Hamilton moves were mistakes and then there is the biggest mistake of all, how could this guy possibly lowball Brind'amour on his contract??!

In other threads, we give teams a hard time if they overpay to keep a player. Why is Dundon seen in a negative light when he is trying to avoid overpaying for players?

Dundon is firm on his stance with how to allocate cap space to players. We can definitely debate whether he allocated it to the right players but it wont be due to an albatross contract to a meh player

Well, to be fair, Jake Gardiner going to LTIR helps that statement along.

It’s not just the players, apparently he’s really cheap with staff and management comp. Hey he’d the billionaire and i’m not, but I think that goes too far if you risk losing a terrific coach like Brivdamour.

However he didn’t lose him, and all rumours are Brindamour was Carolina or nothing. Maybe he was just using his leverage properly.

Yeah he certainly had that leverage, no way Brindamour would leave

    Bump of the day.

Big exciting/controversial signing at the time.

Kotkaniemi leads the Canes in scoring with 12pts in 12gp.
(Impatience ran him out of MON... feels like Slaf is going through the Kotka expectations/treatment right now from media/fans.)

That Canes 1st round pick *was* very late, 27th overall - some got this right - some got this wrong.
The Habs were able to use it to get Christian Dvorak - some got this right - some (me, embarrassed) got this wrong.
Great discussion thread - fun to look back on.
