Pretty straight forward. Pick your Poison. If you choose to explain your pick it would be appreciated.

Hellebuyck for me and pretty easily.

Better goalie with a track record of consistency and top tier numbers.

He played well on a defensively poor team over the past couple seasons and the Jets are only getting better.

Lehner is great, and he'll most likely get a 'Grubauer on Colorado' type of effect, but I'd prefer the better goalie here.

And who knows, maybe Vegas trades Lehner at some point also? They've shown no fear in making big moves.

Hellebuyck is the guy in Winnipeg, no one else around him has a chance of taking that crease.

Hellebuyck for me. Have been a big fan since day one.
Lehner is a close second but I’m biased towards Helle.
As a human interest point of view I believe Lehner being able to get himself together (mental wellness) is a wonderful feel good story.

Helly for sure. If Winnipeg can add some grit to the back line then he becomes that much better. He’s proven to be a damn good goalie behind a suspect blue line. I think he gets better numbers this year. As for Lehner there will be added pressure on him to be the guy. He has a better defence ahead of him and there should be no excuses for him. For the next 3 years I go with one of the best in Helly. Good luck.

I love Lehner but this has to go to Hellebuyck. Goalies are tough enough to predict as it is, trying to project wins (which is what Lehner has going in his favor right now) is even tougher. Give me Helle and his consistency.

    Hellebuyck.
And WPG's defensive system should actually be improved, IMO, from last year.

I think if you take the teams out of it, Lehner is the better goalie, especially when he's playing regularly.
Vegas should also be better than WPG, so Lehner would be my pick.

As a Lehner owner I would swap him for Hellebuyck in an instant. He just seems more durable. Lehner has arguably more upside this year but a lot more downside. I'll take the higher floor over the slightly higher ceiling.

Ballsy call on Lehner over Helle by EB.
They may have close to level SV%...

But I think WPG goes with Helle (vs. Comrie) in 3 out of 4 starts.
And I think VGK goes with Lehner (vs. proven Brossoit) in 2 out of 3 starts.
    There's a start-difference there, IMO.
I know WPG's been waiting on Comrie... but I'll be shocked if he comes out of the NHL gates as "dependable".
WPG will need to scratch/claw for wins WAY more than VGK... I expect at least an extra 8 starts for Helle (say 63 starts) over Lehner (say 55 starts).

Good stuff so far, thanks!! This is a CAP league, so, if we factor in the fact that Lehner is 1.5 Mil cheaper than Hellebuyck does that change anyone's opinion? I'll also add this, does the forum think Barkov for Hellebuyck is a fair price to pay? I'm inclined to think so, but what do others think?

    Hellebuyck. He's healthier, and steadier.

Another factor is that Vegas wanted a cheap dependable backup and went out and got... Heelebuyck's old backup in Brossoit who is getting decent money.

The salary difference is not significant enough for me, unless you're really really strapped for cash.

And yes, Barkov feels like fair value for Hellebuyck but it also depends on the size of the league, the size of your rosters and the scoring system.

I mean that doesn't seem like a lot to me when you are talking about your likely #1 goalie. I tend to think that has only a slight impact on the decision. At that close a number, I'm mostly ignoring it and trying to cut costs on my secondary players.

Barkov for Hellebuyck is fairly even value in the offseason. During the season it would likely cost more to get a top starter without giving a goalie back.
