Default Any one of these players for my first overall pick?

    Hey guys,

Another GM offers me any of the following players for my first overall pick?

    - Forsberg (6M and one year left to contract)
    - Monahan (6,38M and 2 years left to contract)
    - Björkstrand (5,40M and 6 years of contract)
    - Bertuzzi ( 4,75M for 2 years)

Otherwise, I can pick one of the following players:

    - all 2021 rookie class
    - Seth Jarvis
    - Podkolzin
    - Walhstrom
    - Sharangovich

    Notable NHLers:

    - Farabee
    - Kyrou
    - Bennett
    - Tolvanen
    - Roslovic
    - Greenway
    - Chychrun

    Thoughts?

    Rep where I can!

For me, William Eklund is the best option for you, for a few reasons.

    1. He's likely going to be used in SJ as a top 6 winger, with either Couture or Hertl as his centreman.
    2. Wingers usually flex into NHL-use faster than C or D... it's just a lot easier to transition to NHL wing (see output from guys like Caufield, or DeBrincat, or Hoglander or Stuetzle).
    3. The value of those first 3 ELC years, at whatever price ($925k) is great value over an established NHL-er. With older players, they'll either perform slightly above their cap... in which case they'll be getting paid MORE... or they'll perform at or below their cap... in which case you didn't create any VALUE from the trade. It's a lose-lose situation, IMO.

    My choice, here.
Those in the WHL can confirm that I traded a 3rd overall pick (Guenther) and the 16th overall pick (Raty) for the ability to get my hands on Eklund.
I think he's going to be a very, very solid producing NHLer, as soon as next year: 45-50pts.

Also... if this other GM is offering you ALL those options... there's somebody he wants.
Personally, I only think there's 3 players to consider at #1 in drafts this year:

    Point-heavy & Cap leagues: Eklund.
    Forward value FOW+multi-cat leagues: MacTavish
Defense value Hit/Blk+multi-cat (no cap) leagues: Power

your first 2022 in WHL against mine ...im saying Eklund does not play more than 9 NHL games this year:P

^Chychrun is a great pick for most cap leagues.
    He'll have great output.

    Not this league.
OP lists 12F/3D... and it is "points only".
So... it's more like 15 skaters.

Chychrun might be at $4.6m... and maybe he does 46pts... that's the magic 10pts/million benchmark that I think players need to hit.
And Forsberg might be at $6m... and maybe he does 60pts... again, the magic 10pts/million benchmark, fine.

But I think the OP has his team set-up right for this league.
Pair a high-priced forward (say, Panarin) with a low-cost ELC rookie (say, Yamamoto).
He can get 90pts and 40pts (130pts) for 12.6m... AND... if Yamamoto isn't hacking a 40pt pace... just flex another ELC player (or waiver forward in).

    Also - to OP... FWIW:
TonyD is GREAT value in this format now, with his $1m tag.
But Provorov won't do 67pts... so he's trash. (sorry, true)
And Quinn Hughes, let's say he gets $7m... I know he's a great player... but will he get 70pts... probably not...
You have to consider that signing up some bargain-bid ($1m) D... that can get you 15-20pts is better points-per-dollar player.

    Do.not.spend.money.on.D.in.this.format.

Show me in my comment where I suggest Eklund will play in NHL this season.

    There is:
    THIS SEASON

    And:
    NEXT SEASON

    (and also: LAST SEASON)

Think about what "THIS" season is... and then you'll know what "NEXT" season is.

(That said, me and my wife get into this debate, "If today is Tuesday, when is 'Next Thursday'?... and when is 'Next Saturday'?... and when is 'Next Sunday'?")

lol now you just make it too complicted..but i agree he has a chance at 0.5 p/pg 2022-23....i like him a lot too

for purpose of OP i guess questions is what the time line is...as much as i like Eklund he will be hard pressed to outproduce Forsberg for aobut 4-5 years...at least production wise, value per contract , it maybe much sooner.

The Player I like the most for upside out of the listed options is Podkolzin.

I am not sure I would trade the 1st overall pick for him straight across - as mentioned above, if the other GM is listing all these players for the first overall pick, there is a player that they like better than all these players. So get him to include something else like a pick upgrade elsewhere along with Podkolzin and then its a done deal for me.

Another benefit for Podkolzin is that he is signing his entry level contract 2 years after his draft year, so he is 2 years older and has 2 years additional experience against men in the KHL while still getting the benefit of the entry level contract value.

Next Thursday is 9 days away. This Thursday, or simply Thursday is 2 days away.

@ OP - I would go with Farabee or Chychrun depending on what position you need more.

I wouldn't give up the pick for any of that. Not sure where it is in the first round maybe I missed that. But based on the offers I would keep it.

    McDavid/Necas/ Kucherov/Bjorkstrand/Rust/Nugent Hopkins/Cirelli/Zegras/- Letang/Morrissey/Dahlin - Swayman/Saros/Skinner

    Prospects include:
    McTavish/Clarke/Bordeleau
    Dumais/Korchinski/Hutson

Don't worry I'm not going to say anything more than I have to. If that.

Keep the pick, the choices offered are middling given their price tags.
