    Default Keep 10 - opinions

    Hello everyone,

I need to give my top 10 keeper next week and I have 8 players that I'm sure to protect (feel free to challenge me with my selection).
I would really appreciate your opinions about my notable candidate below.

    1. Pastrnak 2 x 6,666,667$
    2. Barkov 1 x 5,900,000$
    3. Aho 3 x 8,460,250$
    4. Zibanejad 1 x 5,350,000$
    5. Werenski 1 x 5,000,000$
    6. Jones 1 x 5,400,000$
    7. Hughes 1 x 925,000$
    8. Necas 1 x 863,333$
    9.
    10.

    Notable candidate
Heiskanen 8 x 8,450,000$ = I will probably keep Heiskanen even if his new contract will be a pain in the as* at the beginning
Matthews 3 x 11,640,250$ = Yes, he is a star and if he doesn't injured himself I will be happy. Or, I still have a couple of options on the market (Mark Stone is available in the draft and at 9.5M$, I can save a 2m$ for other players...)
Kaprizov ???? = I will probably won't know his next contract and his KHL options scare me a little bit.
Dumba 2 x 6,000,000$ = It's not a sexy choice, but we don't have a lot of affordable choice on the draft for my 3 spot left (R. Andersson, J. Marino, M. Grzelcyk, R. Pulock, A. Ekblad...)
Garland 5 x 4,950,000$ = Not anymore a good bargain with his new contract
Thomas ???? = I really like the kid, but I won't know his contract.
Laine 1 x 6,750,000$ = Flip the coins for his performance
Fiala ???? = He will be in arbitration after August 11th....
DeAngelo 1 x 1,000,000$ = Could be a really long shot for next year but I have a bitter taste about him about last season

You can also check my signature for our league details and my farm team.

    Thanks a lot

Matthews and Kaprizov. I'm not keepeing Werenski. CBJ are going to have trouble scoring unless Laine-Voracek becomes a thing. I'd keep Fiala or Heiskanen instead. Both will be worth it.

You have to keep Matthews and Kaprizov, regardless of their salaries. Their top-notch producers for years to come. I would keep Heiskanen over Jones. I think Jones may outscore Heiskanen and Werenski this year but after that, I think both will surpass him.

Another vote for Matthews and Kaprizov.

In response to the comment about dropping Werenski, with goals by D being worth double I'm definitely keeping him even after he hits 9.5M most likely. I probably would consider keeping Fiala over Jones though. I think Jones will be mediocre at best for 5.4M next season but no way he'll be worth 9.5M afterwards.

My favourite cap league strategy in shallow* leagues... is a HIGH-LOW. (*7 Teams is definitely "shallow")
Your league shows about 23players and about $92m... so about $4m/player.
You are actually at about $94m.
Most cap leagues are won with best "production per dollar".
The best "production per dollar" are the ELC players at $925k.
Keeping these players ALLOWS you to also keep the VERY high-priced players.
And the $1m scrubs (I call them) can be flex-ed in/out as they get hot... SO... know that... and it'll help you flex your roster in season.

Here's how I would make 8 groups of players:
    Group A: 3 players - $13m (4m per + $1 extra)
    Group B: 3 players - $13m
    Group C: 3 players - $12m ($4m per)
    Group D: 3 players - $12m
    Group E: 3 players - $12m
    Group F: 3 players - $12m
    Group G: 3 players - $12m
    Group H: 2 players - $8m

    That should sum to 23players/$94m. (23 x $4m = $92m, extra $1m to first two groups)

And here's how you could do them:

    Group A: $11.6m Matthews + $.7m FlexScrub + $.7m FlexScrub
Group B: $6.5m Pastrnak + $6m Barkov + $1m FlexScrub (or ELC star, like Hughes)
    Group C: $8.5m Aho + $3.5m for two FlexScrubs
    etc...

Generally - these leagues, the fact that Defensemen get salaries for defending (Seth Jones, Zach Werenski) doesn't play well towards their value.
So... when I think "Scrubs"... I want defensemen there... shitty PP2 type defensemen that will get me 6g,14a for $1m... because it creates space for your forwards.

    And 20pts from a $1mD is 20pts/$1m.
That's way better than what a Jones or Werenski offers this year... and especially better than what Jones or Werenski will offer at $9m.

    For all these reasons, I'd:
Don't Keep: Werenski and S.Jones. Just don't do it. The value isn't there in points scoring, even with D-Gbonus.
Keep: Matthews, Kaprizov, and either Garland, Fiala, or Thomas (contracts pending - but Garland is great value if he does 60pts on $5m.)
Also Keep: TonyD at $1m. (ugh, blah, TonyD...) but for $1m... he allows you cap space to do High-Low... and you will need/want to roster 6D.

    My 2 cents, good luck.

Woww what a complete and analytic response, really appreciate it
Anyway my plan wasn't to keep Werenski and Jones in my keepers when their big contracts will pop in 2 years (I will promote some kids that I will need to protect afterwards)
