Default Who to keep? Big keeper decisions (will rep!)

Hi! I'm in a goal heavy multicat keeper league (8 teams) and every fifth year we're doing a mini reset of the league (we can only keep 15+5 of our 52 players). Most of my team is in the signature.

I could really need of some advice regarding my final two keeper spots. These are my keepers:

    1. Crosby
    2. McDavid
    3. Eichel
    4. A. Svechnikov
    5. E. Pettersson
    6. Aho
    7. Rantanen
    8. Panarin
    9. Kaprizov
    10. MacKinnon
    11. Makar
    12. Hamilton
    13. Dahlin

For the last to spots im trying to decided between these players:
    Zibanejad
    Ehlers
    Guentzel
    Barrie
    Lehner
    Markström

I'm leaning towards Zibanejad and Ehlers, but Guentzel feels equally good as Ehlers. Barrie resigning in EDM and Lehner without Fleury in VGK could be great as well.

    Roster:
    F: 12
    D: 6
    Bench (F/D): 5
    G: 3

    Minors:
    F/D: 23
    G: 3
(From the minors I can keep five and I'm keeping: Lafreniere, Byfield, J. Hughes, Holtz and Grubauer)

    Thanks everyone!

    First impressions:

This is a ridiculously strong team!

Dahlin is by no means a lock for a keeper spot.

Zibanejad should be a lock for a keeper spot.

I think I'd drop Dahlin, then keep Zib, Lehner, Guentzel. Possibly keep Barrie if you want another D keeper.

Thanks sweetcelly! This keeper league has been going for 10 years and I've won the last 3, so a shakeup is due (not that I mind winning, and will still be in a good position to do so).

Dahlin is regarded very highly in our league (all of us are from Sweden) but I totally get what you're saying. I'm mostly keeping him to trade him since the interest in him is very high even after the season he had. Zib is my first choice right now as well so that's nice to hear. Regarding Guentzel, Lehner and Ehlers (who I really like) it feels like a toss up to me. Thanks for the input, really appreciate it!

I agree, would not keep Dahlin at all. Keep Barrie and Guentzel. Barrie back in Edm and had most points for all D. Plus those PPP'S. I take Guentzel because you also have Sid. Double up the points

Pick your poison no easy choices here and it can be argued several ways. As there are 8 teams, I think you're okay not keeping a goalie (although Lehner is tempting you do have Grubauer in the minors for some reason?), and especially since your league is goal heavy.

I'd go with Guentzel and Zibs, but Ehlers is a close third it's just his linemates aren't as good. Dahlin isn't really a keeper for you but I'd keep him solely for his potential (although with the rebuild going on, you could swap out Dahlin for Barrie which would help you but only in the short-term).
    Team 1:
J Hughes, Cooley (r), Bratt, Laine, M Tkachuk, Necas, A Svechnikov, S Jarvis, M Michkov (r), W Johnston, Zegras, Giroux, Norris, Couturier, B Jenner, T Krug, Burns, M Weegar, Werenski, Sergachev, B Clarke (r), Theodore, Sorokin , Oettinger, Askarov (r), Ersson
    12 teams, No salary cap
Keep 14 plus 4 rookies (under 150 GP) max 18 players
    Scoring: G (1), A (1), +/- (0.25), H (0.1), B(0.1), PIM (0.1), SOG (0.1), GWG (1), PPP (1), SHP (1),
    Goalies: W (2), SO (3), GA (-0.5), OTL (1), SV (0.1)

Thanks! Still leaning to keep Dahlin for the reasons I mentioned above, but leaning more towards Guentzel over Ehlers.

Yeah it's a tough one! Thanks, that's my thinking too. Might look a bit weird with Grubauer in the minors, but we are allowed to keep 5 minor league players (players drafted in our draft or the real NHL draft the last two years), so I'm keeping Grubauer as a "rookie".

I think you guys have convinced me to go Guentzel over Ehlers, so it will probably be Zibs, Guentzel and Dahlin. Thank you very much

Honestly with a team that strong a three straight wins, I'd be looking at intentionally weakening myself and trading away a few studs (Crosby, Dahlin, etc.) for some top picks in future years. Keep the other guys from giving up. Your team is amazing!

Actually now that I've read his original post more closely, I see what he said about a mini-reset coming soon anyways. So ignore the first post. But otherwise it would have probably been a good idea. I've been in the same position in my own league before - so strong that you need to lose a few trades to keep other GM's from just giving up and quitting. Bad for the team, good for the league's health, haha.

His team is STACKED, but with built-in resets there's no real need to balance out in the meantime.

Since Dahlin is highly coveted in your league I’d sniff around and see what you can get for him. Barrie would help you in the now for sure so if you can swing that then better for you. As for the 2 keepers, I’d keep guentzel and zibs. But you have a strong team with a ton of good “non” keepers so some trades could open up some decisions for you. Or deal them for picks. I think you have a helluva team that should win again no matter a reset. Good luck

Who cares if Dahlin is highly coveted. He's not as good as your other keeper options. Let some other GMs drool over his name. Last time I checked, actual production win fantasy hockey leagues, not names. Play with your head, not your heart. Let Dahlin go back into the draft (I assume he's redraftable) and get him back that way if you want him that bad. Keep Zibanejad, Lehner and Guentzel and keep winning your pool.
