For me, this a super-smart move.
The kid has potential... and being at low-cap means he'll be included on the roster (not much "Oh, we can save cap by sending him down").
Put in your time, get to UFA, earn your money.

flat cap era has free agents making decisions we're not accustom to by prioritizing staying on the main roster and getting playing time. a ring doesnt hurt either haha
