    Default Werenski vs. Boqvist

    Hi All,

So, it would be great to get your opinion on which of these two players will be running PP1 this coming year. I know the quick answer is Werenski but I think his ability and size peg him in a more all situations role. Boqvist has a more pure offensive skillset.

The reason I ask this - I've got to make a decision between protecting Evan Bouchard or Boqvist, and Edmonton's recent moves suggest Bouchard is further from PP1 than Boqvist is. Bouchard will not be unseating Barrie as the PP1 guy for the next three or four years.

Your opinion would be appreciated on whether my judgement on leaning towards Boqvist is the right one.

It's a points only league, with bonus points for Defenceman goals, PP goals. A defenceman who scores a lot of goals is gold in our league.

    Thanks.

I don't love either player's position, tbh, but if forced to choose I would go with Boqvist.

Maybe, just maybe, Boqvist splits PP time with Werenski similar to the way Jones did. I don't see Bouchard getting any PP time. Even if Barrie doesn't get all the minutes, I think Nurse gets time over Bouchard.

I dont think either Boqvist or Bouchard will be PP1 QBs anytime soon. Im not sure I agree with your thought that Boqvist has a more pure offensive skillset than Werenski as well. Not many Dmen score 20+ goals, which Werenski has done in recent years.

My preference, if goals are important would be to go with Bouchard over Boqvist. Bouchard had just as many goals as Boqvist and one less SOG (important to those who want to score goals) and Bouchard played in less than half as many games last season. Boqvist got into 35 games last year and was basically PP1, Bouchard 14 with basically no PP time.

I'd guess there will be some loyalty to Werenski for having already been there and Boqvist's relative lack of experience. Werenski has 1 more year then he's an RFA. I'd guess for this next season, Boqvist is on PP2 all year unless Werenski flops.

I had this same scenario on my team, but I made a decision to keep Werenski over Boqvist before free agency and ultimately moved Boqvist for a pick. I think now that they’re on the same team, Werenski likely has the inside track on him, but not totally sure

One thing to keep in mind, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Werenski is a free agent after next season. If he leaves, Boqvist will only have Mr. Bean to compete with.

i dont think Barrie will move from that PP for next few years...

...while i think its Werenski's job to loose in Columbus, Boqvist will have opportunities to take it and i think he has tools to do so...i dont see it happening this year tho...unless there is injury.

I 100% agree with Axe here. Plus with the new contract Werenski signed, that secures PP1. Boqvist will be getting PP2 time at best for the next two years.

Only thing playing at his advantage is if Werenski gets hurt.

    I’d go with Bouchard
