Default Where does Lehner rank now?

    Hey All,

Now that MAF has been shipped out of Vegas, where does this leave Lehner with respects to the rankings? Does he now move up into the top 10 just because he is now the clear #1 on Vegas? Dobber had him at 20 and MAF at 21 in their keeper league rankings, so does this now vault Lehner up?

I know Vegas will need to sign a back-up, but with limited Cap, Vegas is likely only able to bring in a $1-2mil salary, and that is conducive to a clear #2 and not like a 1b caliber goalie.

    Thoughts?
    Cheers!

    Yes, I think he's around a 4th-6th overall goalie.
Vas, Hellebuyck still 1-2. Grubauer probably at #3, assuming he re-signs.

I think Lehner will average #4 or #5 goalie off the board in one-year leagues if he's a 75% volume starter.
But... VGK may find a backup goalie that is solid that can do 1/3 starts or even 40% starts... that could shift Lehner down to 7-10 range.

    I think we get a 45games, 0.915-0.920s% and a 2.30-2.50GAA. Prolly wins 60% of games so 27-30w.

I think that puts him into the top 15for goalies. But for the first time since 2018-19 season we're having an 82 game schedule, who knows what goalies are prepped for Full time roles of 60 starts.

We'll end up seeing Helly, Vas, and maybe 2 other dark horses go for 60 starts (Markstrom and Binnington come to mind). So thinking in tiers, Lehner would be in that 10-20th goalie range with a shot at top 10 numbers.

Goalies are hard to pin down outside of the top guys. Lehner's floor is even hard to pin down because the last time he was "the goalie" 4 yrs ago.

I still think there's questions about his ability to play 50+ games a season durability-wise. But he's in a great spot. It does obviously depend on who they sign as backup, but it should be someone cheap. But that also may not guarantee Lehner plays 50+ games, as a lot of goalies could come into Vegas and play very well. For instance, let's say they sign Holtby for 1.75m on a one year. Could I see him having a nice bounceback and play 35 games? Sure. So while I do think this helps Lehners value in that he will be the clear starter, but I also don't know if I'm ready to put him top 5. Just a few question marks around him still.

If I remember correctly, he was top 3 ranked goalie last pre season when everyone thought Fleury would be dealt.

Vegas is a great defensive team, they are in the easiest division, are cup contenders, Martinez is coming back (reportedly?) and rumours swirling that Eichel is now a target. How many times has it been discussed that team and situation play into a goalie's stats?

Pretty sure the only other goalie who has a situation this good is Vasilevsky. I don't see how anything other than losing starts to a backup will prevent him from being an automatic top 10 and probably top 5 goaltender.

i play in daily start leagues primarily so i play and value my goalies differently than most people i know. Lehner is now my #2 goalie after Vasilevskiy in one-year/short term setups as the Pacific Division is BY FAR the weakest.

That's where I had him, or close to it. Definitely a top 5 goalie going into last season. He's still there for me going into this season.

Nah. They like Logan Thompson who crushed it last year in the A. This was a cap hit deal and I dont see Vegas wanting to spend their room on G.

Top 5 because of the situation he’s in and his ability. Can he be a viable option to play 50 games? I’m guessing they will want to go easy on him so 45-50 is what I expect him to play. We will now get a chance to see him perform without MAF as a competitor/blanket.

theyll bring in a more than capable backup, i dont see lehner playing more than 55. the days of goalies playing 65+ are practically gone anyways.

lehner's value increases dramatically with this fleury trade. he may be worth keeping in one of my limited keepers now

Agree with this, but still view him as a top 5 now.
