I have made several posts with facts on how this could of been better for the Avs. Your only comment is on how little I know about Makar and a prick response on my intelligence based on the spelling of MacKinnon. You have not provided a single relevant justification for your stance or retort to my claim.

Is this BigEvs’s new account? I’d be annoyed if it wasn’t so entertaining.

101 games played (season) - that's it . Show another contract this large, in the cap era, after such few games played.
Not saying Makar isn't worth that skill wise, but I think he needs to put in more work first. Especially when you look at the contracts Landy and McKinnon (who are the face of your team) have had.
I think this signing was the 2nd best option.

Makar is already more important to this team than Landeskog (obviously). Makar doesn’t need to prove anything. He’s darn near a generational talent. They’ve signed him appropriately. If this were Rasmus Dahlin, for instance, than yeah, he hasn’t proven anything yet. Makar has already shown he’s worth this contract.

Nothing here is wrong. I just don't think it was the most (realistic) optimal play.

Agreed, he has and will continue to earn every penny of this contract. Such a great young player that for once I didn’t disagree with the number and term of the deal. When this contract is up he may actually command more.

At the end of his contract he will be 28 which is still in prime window. Even if he doesn't improve at all from now until then he will still command over 9m just due to natural cap increase. Barring any fluky outside influence, he will improve.

2-3 year contract could of saved them a puck of cap space to spend elsewhere, in line with savings on McKinnon. Spend it wisely elsewhere advantage Avs. After contract is up now you sign him to a same type contract. 6-7 years 9.5m-10m. When this expires he's say 31,32 and declining. You can now sign him appropriately instead of having to heavy invest in him again.

Sure could they have nickeled and dimed him? But they know the type of player he is, which is one of the best dmen in the league (and young) so they pay him. He felt he’s worth that and the Avs agreed. In the end the Avs will pay for their mistakes, I don’t think Makar is one of them. Best case scenario for the Avs was a bridge deal, check Marner, Matthews, Laine….sometimes it happens and most times it doesn’t. Again, time will tell but locking up a top defenseman like Makar is a good investment IMO.

    Totally agree with Feenom here.

The "optimal" deal (in the short term) is a bridge that allows for more salary flex when they are in "win now" mode.

To get that, you need the player to be open to it. If he's not, Makar is in the class of player (imo) that you pay him what it takes (see Matthews deal).

To me, this is neither a great deal nor an overpay.. it's likely a 'necessary' deal that you just deal with when it comes to your elite assets.

Every one of those players played 3 full seasons. Laine: 237 gp Matthews: 212 gp (some injuries) Marner: 241 gp. Those teams were also not in a win now window.

With a history of bridge deals to their top players McKinnon and Landy, no one would be saying Avs cheaped out. Especially if it means bringing in more talent. Many other reasons to tack onto this to enforce this route.

Was this bridge type deal even tabled? Don't think we will ever know (or at least I don't know). But it should of been the first explored. Wish I knew.

As the great YzermansLegacy says "this is neither a great deal nor an overpay"

I did pick the Avs to go to the finals this year
I just think Avs management dropped the ball if they didn't first look into a lower AAV bridge deal first.
You know what I'm going to look into that.
