There is a big difference between staying in the line-up and being too expensive to keep in the line-up in a salary cap world.
He played in all 56 games for Florida last year. But at 6.35 million and a NMC - his play wasn't worth the cap hit and no flexibility to move him.

At least he's cheaper than Gustafsson was, and might be better on defense. At least he can flipped to a contender at the deadline, if the Flyers are smart. However, that requires somebody else to be making the decisions instead of Fletcher.
