It is for a guy who has yet to really earn anything. I cant imagine they traded for Bernier if they didn't think they could sign him, and for less than what Nedeljkovic was asking for.

getting a 3rd rounder for a goalie thats had a half season of good play is decent asset management if you can find a suitable replacement elsewhere
surprised they bailed on Ned so quickly still though considering he played a good chunk of their playoff games

I really don’t understand this move for Carolina. Detroit gets a potential #1 goalie for pretty much nothing. And he’s only 25!

I cant see how this would change their tune if he's the one they are interested in. Any goalie drafted is most likely three (at best) to five years out. Nedeljkovic is 25.5 years of age. He wouldn't be crazy old when it's Wallstedt's time but he'd be the right age to start to mentor. Let's not forget that Nedeljkovic is still a bit of an uproven NHL asset with 29 games played in the NHL. I can bet you Detroit will be bringing in an experienced backup for insurance.

i dont disagree here but they have many other needs...since they found the goalie they can only hope he will stay after 2 years and go find more offense in the draft....or 2D for MS to play with
