NHL Entry Draft 2021 Thread

General thread for the 2021 entry draft which starts at 8pm et on July 23rd.

It's going to be an interesting and unpredictable one and definitely one we will look back at many years down the line.

There is no report on this, completely just my own thought, so don't take it as a rumor with any validity ...
Won't surprise me if buffalo and Seattle swap 1st and 2nd overall. Buffalo reportedly loves eklund (I can't blame them!) but at first overall you have to go with power. I think they had ideally hoped eichel would have been traded by now and they would have had an extra top pick to get him with. I doubt that happens this week. Plus the now-rumored teams involved don't have high picks (I think eichel is definitely going to Minnesota. Actually a pretty easy deal to get done imo).
On the other side, Ron Francis LOVES defencemen. Look through his GM history, he likes to build from the back-end. Matt beniers is the guy rumored to go at 2, but if Seattle stayed there i think they'd go with edvinsson or hughes (probably edvinsson). But the step up to power could be pretty big. You could possibly have a franchise dman (ekblad-like) in power if you move up one spot to a team that probably doesn't mind moving down.
Just makes too much sense to me for this not to get done. Buffalo will want to offload a bad contract and Seattle has more than enough cap space for that.

If Buffalo really prefers Eklund, just take him first overall. It's not rocket science.

For once it feels like an actual busy draft night in terms of trades. I wonder if we see actual pick trades on the floor. People are definitely going to want to move back, but will anyone want to move up? Maybe to get into that core 10 ish players before the first drop off.

Oh come on…. Nearly ANY of today’s trades could easily have been done (or announced) during the broadcast if the NHL wanted to have more excitement and drama. They don’t get it. Or, they don’t care if their draft shows could become an attraction that brought excitement (spelled f a n s ) to the game.

Columbus is having a GREAT night. Johnson, Sillinger, and Boqvist adds a lot of skill to Columbus. Maybe Eklund over Johnson but Jarmo is the one who poured over the tapes not me. Oh and my draft prep didn't go deep enough to know who Boucher is.
