If you're looking at pitbull's draft above, he and I posted the same draft back to back. Team with the 2nd overall timed-out and got moved to the end of the first and awarded the highest drafted player left which was Edvinsson.

My best guess is a lot of people see the 2nd tier of defensemen (Hughes, Clarke, Edvinsson) as effectively equal and are simply using their NHL draft position as a tie breaker.

I was able to pick up quite a few draft picks in trade this year due to the perception this was a weak draft.
I identified goaltending as the strength of the draft and focused on that position. Four of my eight picks were Gs.
My strategy was to do something unexpected and stun the whole draft, then capitalize on the resulting confusion.
