The exemption list is already out and Klefbom was not on it.

My guess is that will be rectified. I mean, the Oilers management couldn't possibly be that inattentive.

Unfortunately it doesn't offer any explanation as to why he was left off. He seems more deserving of exemption than several players on that list.

my take was arthritis isn't an injury? therefore not exempt.

Hossa's was a skin condition. Whatever. Either way they should not need to use a protection spot on him. Seattle would be off their rocker to take him.

Holland is the new Chiarelli. It's almost like, I don't know, the problem goes way beyond the GM.

I am shocked the Hawks did not have to retain cap space on Keith. While I do think Keith can be effective on the 2nd pair and very good as a 3rd pairing dman, that is not worth his 5.5 cap hit. This is a poor trade for Edmonton.

There has gotta be another trade coming to explain this move. Two parts of a grander strategy, like P. Kane for J. Neal straight up.

It's the only thing that would make sense.

    Yeah, that MUST be it...

When I first saw the headline I assumed there was more to it. Oil should have got more or gave up less, and I'm not even a 'Keith should retire' guy.

I don't like the trade on the surface, but I will reserve judgement until we see how the move affects wins and losses, especially come playoff time. The dressing room needs players who have won Cups before and that blueline is going to have some young lads that could use some mentoring from a former all-star. Yes, it does sound like I'm trying hard to put a positive spin on the trade, but this isn't fantasy hockey, teams need veterans to provide leadership and mentoring. I hope I'm right...
