Even the Astros were hit with draft picks. Arizona got hit with picks! I don't get why they wouldn't take picks from Chicago.

This whole situation is a joke and completely disgusting. The fact that this isn't getting more attention is appalling. Everything about this is just dripping in filth.

I read in Twitter that Luongo's cap recapture penalty was more than this.

Luongo's recapture is just over $3mill. Which is just another sad point that the NHL messed up the fine.

Brett Connolly's buried cap hit penalty is more than the fine ($2.375mill) and he's on Chicago. They've made the decision that him not on the NHL is worth spending $2.375mill on keeping him away. The organization def has made over $2mill because of their Stanley Cup run in 2010.

So basically with the fine as opposed to draft picks... they are making a statement that this is not as negative as cheating... is that how one would interpret the difference between the penalties.

Bettman will cite that he could have fined the Yotes no less than $250,000 but decided not to fine them and take picks away because the punishment was more fitting to the crime than to just fine them.

So what is more fitting for the crime with the Blackhawks? Fining them and using that money for charity that is centered around sexual assault in the Chicago area, or removing picks? The fine for the Hawks is insanely low, but $2mill is $2mill, and $1mill to the charities is a lot still.

I wish the organization got more of a penalty, and the fine was larger however. Now the team likely still needs to deal with John Doe and some form of compensation, which will be determined by how much that both parties thinks he lost in possible future wages over this.

The fine should have been closer to $10mill in my opinion. With even like just a 2nd+3rd round pick (highest possible) loss this yr would hit the team pretty hard.

You definitely bring up some good points. Part of why there should be first round picks involved, and in my opinion, several first round picks, is to discourage future cover-ups. It let's people know that you are taking this seriously and that this kind of thing will not be tolerated.

    Oooo lets get creative.

The fine goes against the cap. That would really deter people. The fine goes against the cap as of Nov1st, and the $2mill fine is active for 5 yrs. That would actually be pretty good, and likely not legal lol.

The fine is a drop in the bucket. It's insulting and sends the wrong message.

All 7 executives (including Quenneville and the other GM - but I'm sure they'll both keep their jobs) should be banned for life. On top, Hawks should lose multiple draft picks and be fined $10M+

At least NHL is better than the NFL where Goodell refused to even make the Redskins report public.

Serious question...does anyone know if Aldrich is in jail right now? He should be.

Yes but when it comes to something as severe as sexual assault - complacency = guilt.

If someone was murdered at your office would you let it slide just cause your boss said so?

Duncan Keith said he didn't know at the time today, yet they reported that 8 out of 14 players knew coming into camp that September. They also said the player was openly mocked. So conveniently all the superstars were oblivious. Ok got it. I was born at night but not last night.
