even if flames are offering tkachuk without any additions I hit that accept button yesterday .

he's expiring RFA so theres still time on the clock for buffalo to either convince him its a great place to play and extend long term or flip him for a great return from the team that thinks they can

To hold Tkachuk's rights they would need to extend a 1 year $9M contract that would take him to UFA. If Buffalo can't agree to an extension before acquiring him I don't think that' a trade they should even consider.

edit: Just saw 2014OG pointed out the same thing already on the last page

I agree its risky but if a few teams get into a bidding war that are confident they can sign Tkachuk long term the returns for Buffalo might be greater than what the current Eichel offers are

If I'm Buffalo, would you not entertain even extending him post trade ASAP for a 1yr deal at whatever he wants, and flip him at 50% retained? Tkachuk at 4.5mill would be accepted by any team.

EF came out last night and said he doesn't think Calgary is close, and that Tkachuk hasn't been mentioned. He went on to say he doesn't like doo-dooing over other reports but he pretty much said Weeks report wasn't something he's heard at all.

Vogul (Athletic beat writer for the Sabres) tweeted out he's hearing there was added pressure from an external source to get the deal done (not a grievance). So maybe ownership is stepping in, maybe the league is asking for the deal to get done before a grievance is filed.

As I suspected...a crap return for Buffalo. Poor fans.

I never really thought a name like Theodore or Tkachuk would be included.

First off, we dont even know the full package. Secondly, I am not going to judge this return on the initial information, especially if prospects and picks are involved. I remember everything thinking the return for Erik Karlsson was crap initially and in the end, it worked out pretty damn good for the Senators.

Friedman confirmed, Peyton Krebs, Alex Tuch, a 1st in 2022 and a 2nd in 2023 for Eichel and a 3rd

I don't think it's official, but there could be money retained and it's not out yet. But the meat in the trade is confirmed.

    ---EDIT---
2023 3rd round pick going to Buffalo is now rumoured to be a 2023 2nd round pick.

I thought Krebs was the piece Vegas was unwilling to include that Buffalo always wanted ?

Regardless of what happens in the future, that's a crap return. Again, I'm not at all surprised, though. Buffalo dragged this debacle out so long that they were never going to get a decent return for Eichel.

I'm curious to see if the other offers get leaked. Carolina was apparently a secret team circling, and I can see them needing to pay a big premium since Eichel would stay in the East.

The next thing is...Out of all the big trades Vegas has done, have they truly stole a player besides the Stone trade?

yes this is a very good point Axe. I regret my remark about the poor return.

Reality is that, in that series last year against Montreal, Tuch was DOMINANT. What a player, so we sholdn't discount that piece.

And Krebs is going to be a high end centerman, perfect complement to Cozens.

And of course the draft picks, I just wrote in the other thread about how the Pacioretty trade garnered a draft pick that turned into Norlinder. So the draft picks here may end up being hugely productive.

Lets not forget that Eichel still needs to have surgery on his back. We have no idea how he's going to deal with the comeback and how this will play out long term. Back injuries can be life altering, let alone for an athlete. I hope for his sake he returns to full health and returns to his former self, but injuries like this can change someone.

Also, Vegas is like 25th in the league right now. Likely won't continue, but...imagine if that pick becomes a top 10 (Yahoo said the pick is top 10 protected tho, haven't seen anyone else say that tho)
