Dadonov has a 10 team no-trade list. I'm assuming Buffalo+Arizona+7 Canadian Teams+Detroit so he can't move to Buffalo. If Buffalo isn't on it, Smith+Dadonov is an easy balance.

IF Dadonov says no to Buffalo, then you need a 3rd team involved I would think.

Eichels reps are making one final case this week to convince Sabres to allow Eichel to get his replacement surgery. He's been visiting a bunch of local doctors over the last week and a bit to gather evidence to submit to the Sabres.

Also not expecting much, but here's hoping they come to some sort of arrangement. It's apparent they haven't been getting the offers they want. Maybe getting him back healthy and then putting him back on the block is the best option for maximizing value from here on out.

Nashville is due for a proper rebuild.

Ship anything to Buffalo for Eichel, and make Eichel the center of the rebuild. Eichel is young enough it makes sense. Let him do his thing and heal up, and it may be a win for both teams in the long run.

Nashville has nothing to offer Buffalo to help a rebuild. So it would involved other teams to take bad contracts for picks (which isn't happening). Or Nashville sending a bunch of 1sts, which isn't what they should be doing, but that wouldn't happen without cap dumps.

Back in May Vogel brought up the injury grievance route as a possibility. He said it pretty much means if Buffalo and Eichel can't come to terms on a medical route, an arbitrator comes in and makes the final decision.

I don't know if the grievance that could be filed will be against the injury issues, or on the trade issues, but I would assume it's injury. So Eichel's camp has got a ton of info on the surgery he wants and is likely telling Buffalo "I have the ability to win a grievance and you'll be forced to make the decision and pay for the surgery. Make a deal, or let me have the surgery now before I need to go the grievance route because we both don't want that".

There's no other reason to threaten a grievance than Eichel not really wanting to go through that because it's just going to be a few weeks extra of not getting the surgery.

so could there actually be a case where the arbitrator comes in and sides with buffalo and makes eichel get surgery he doesnt want to get? that sounds terrible if thats a possibility

I think it would just then be where we are now. Buffalo saying "see, get the surgery" and Eichel saying, "hmmm no, trade me to a team that accepts my wishes for the surgery."

I think this is a step where Eichel gets the surgery as a Sabre, then gets traded once recovered. Vs getting traded for conditional picks then getting the surgery on his new team.

Why wouldn't the arbitrator side with the Sabres. That's how it's written in the CBA.

so, assuming the arbitrator sides with buffalo and forces eichel to get this surgery. if it goes wrong or ends his career or something, does he have the ability to seek damages?

"independent arbitrator" is selected by both parties from the National Academy of Arbitrators. So I don't quite get the "why wouldn't he side with the Sabres" argument. It's supposed to be a completely separate party determining this stuff. However I do believe Eichel's camp has to prove his way is the right way and that the Sabres way does not allow him to perform his duties as a hockey player. So it is tough as he's wanting surgery that helps him in the future and the Sabres are wanting a surgery that is known to work on hockey players.

https://www.nhlpa.com/the-pa/cba <--- There's the CBA if anyone cares. Article 17 (starts at page 109) is the grievance section.
