Well, given the proposed package where you speculated they’d only have to add draft picks, you’d support him with Gaudreau-Tkachuk-Coleman-Lindholm-Mangiapane-Backlund.

However, I agree that the Flames hyper-scared GM would not make that kind of trade. He’ll just make sure all the insiders make it know he was “in there until the end”.

I think NYR will still get it done, but I don't know when. They have the pieces, and if they include R.Strome. Buffalo is at $63mill with Eichel's 10mill on the books, so they would be at 57.5mill with a "eichel for Strome" deal. Obviously it's not going to be 1for1, but the Sabres are at 23/23 rosters spots on the NHL roster, so I don't actually know how they'll become cap compliant unless they go and acquire an LTIR player.

Maybe there's an LTIR player out there that Buffalo can flip Strome (50% retained) for an LTIR player + pick?

I don't know how a team is going to be able acquire a 10mill player mid-season.

I really don't want Eichel on the Rangers. I hope he goes to Calgary, Minnesota, or LA. Not sure if they've been linked to Eichel, but Anaheim would be my favorite destination.

If I'm betting money, my first pick would be Vegas.

Anaheim has been connected because Buffalo I think was asking for Zegras, Drysdale, ++ and Anaheim said no real quick.

And with Vegas, who knows because they can move guys to the AHL roster to open up 3.9mill, and LTIR Tuch (out till January with Shoulder surgery) and then open up $4.75mill in space. So if Vegas was involved they would use that Tuch space, and likely need to include Rielly Smith, in a possible 3way trade as Smith doesn't fit Buffalo's plan.

Vegas can happen, but I dunno if it happens this yr. I would say he's almost guaranteed to be going to Vegas in the offseason. Who knows tho, Vegas likes the shiny new toy and they are ruthless with trading guys for the new thing

yep...exactly why I think it will be Vegas. Something about that team that bugs me...the handling of Fleury is obviously is a big part of that. I just think they will do whatever it takes to get it done. No one on that team is safe because Stone. Not that I think it will take much to get Eichel. I think it will take some fancy maneuvering to clear the cap space, but Vegas will be relentless and get it done, even if it means trading someone like Karlsson.

With Zibanajad and Fox needing new contracts this offseason, I don't see how New York fits in Eichel. They already had to give Buchnevich away since they couldn't afford him. They could make it work pretty easily this season with trading Chytil and some spare parts but are they better after trading for Eichel if it means all the other parts they would lose and couldn't afford?

Those are my thoughts as well. It would be a shame to lose Zibanejad and have a harder time re-signing Fox, with Lafreniere and Kakko up for new contracts soon as well, to land Eichel. I don't think they "need" him. Sure, he's arguably an upgrade on Zibanejad in some respects, but at the same time Zibanejad is damn good and has some nice chemistry with Panarin, so I'm not sure I'd be messing with that if I were the Rangers.

Eichel apparently saw multiple doctors in the Buffalo area earlier in the week.

Sounds like there's a lot of "we want this done" by both sides...but it's if Kevin Adams pulls the trigger or not.

this whole situation will go down imo as one of the worse-handled hockey situations in history. I will never comprehend why Buffalo chose to do this with any player, let alone their best player and face of their franchise. And to make matters worse, they are now going to get a return that greatly pales in comparison to Eichel's true value. It's utterly shameful in so many ways, but I don't feel sorry in the slightest for the franchise. I feel sorry for the fans, but the people running this organization are going to get exactly what they deserve for so poorly mishandling this situation.

Complete guess, but I think the absolute maximum one can reasonably expect as of today is ~30 (roughly the number of games that would remain post-all star break), and subtract 3 for each week that passes from here on out without him being traded. The recovery for disc replacement surgery (which Eichel wants) is significantly faster than fusion surgery, but I'd still bank on whatever team he's with proceeding with caution and the recovery timeline being on the longer side of the up to 3 months estimate.

So all in all, I think less than 15-20 is most likely.
