I would bet under on any number.

I doubt anything gets done this season. But also, the NHL is paused for 3 weeks because of the olympics (no ASG) so it would benefit anyone who does acquire him as he would get a few extra weeks of recovery without missing games.

IF he has surgery before November, he plays the final few dozen games. But as it's already mid-October, I would say he isn't dealt. But who knows, he would get traded and likely in surgery within a week.

I don't blame them for not wanting any remanence of Eichel on the team after all this. But it's still dumb to me.

The biggest fumble from Buffalo is that they thought they were in a sellers market and decided to wait it out, but it was a buyers market and the other teams got impatient in the offseason. Now they have such a hard situation to deal with...Dealing a 10mill contract where only a handful of teams can manage it. And only 2 of them are contending teams lol.

Apparently a deal was close then fell through on Thursday/Friday. I bet it was Vegas and the detail that made it fall apart was Vegas asking for like 1-2mill retained...Which is ridiculous to completely destroy a deal when you're rebuilding. Look at Toronto, they held 1.2mill of Kessel's deal and it's coming off the books after this yr and Toronto had the quickest turnaround ever. You won't be needing that retained salary for future deals until Eichel's contract is done likely. And if you do... THAT'S A GOOD THING BECAUSE IT MEANS YOU'RE GOOD.

If I am Buffalo, and you want arguably one of the best players in the league (when healthy of course) from me, I wouldn't retain salary either. If you want him, pay for him.

The Sabres can't f this trade up. They need to come out a winner in any Eichel trade or they won't trade him. From the Evander Kane trade, to the ROR trade (two of the more recent trades I can remember), they have a history of botching trades and I dont think Adams is willing to take less than his asking price for Eichel or he simply won't trade him. Personally, I am fine with that train of thought here.

i think that if there is conditions in this deal they will get good return. I just dont know how you structure that. You cant return players, at least i dont think i can. So i think it needs to be pick heavy.

if you send many picks + some underachiever at 8m...that would make lots of sense for Buffalo. I dont blame them for not wanting to retain salary, specially with Skinner on the books. But i can also see them retaining some and just using this as negotiation tool.

im more and more of opinion that this will hurt Jack Eichel more then it hurts Buffalo. It just takes too long....at this point he will be lucky to be at NHL training camp next year...

If I was GM I would retain. But I get a team that fired dozens of scouts to save money and is doing anything to not spend money on the roster not wanting to retain salary. I also don't think this is the GMs decision, it's Pagolias or whatever. They hired Adams to be a yes man.

Vegas is starting to be the last place I'd want to play if I'm a pro. No one is safe there. What big name do they have to move out to fit Eichel under the cap?

Eichel does have a NMC that kicks in next summer.
