I'm still in. 8 would be ideal if we can get that many owners

If we are doing 6 entry drafts total...

It would be interesting to try with 6 GMS.

That way each GM would get to pick first for one of the drafts.

That's a good point, 6 could work well. Random draft order with a new team guaranteed the 1st each year

Yup exactly! one draft order and just rotate your slot for each different draft!!

I'm still down for this little experiment too.

Have an idea for consideration to make the allocation of draft 'spots' a bit more fun/strategic. PH and I do something similar to this in RHRS (but just as a single season format).

Knowing that each of the GMs is going to get a 1st-6th draft slot over 6 different drafts (and thinking each would be snake format), what if we did a 'draft' to pick your preferred year/draft slot (until all 36 slots have been allocated).

Let's say we're using drafts from 2019-2024. We run a draft randomizer and it comes out: Emu, PH, Trub, Kory, YL, Team X

Emu decides he wants the 1st pick in the 2023 draft.
PH decides to go with the 1st pick in the 2022 draft.
Trubs likes Michkov better than Hughes so he takes the 2nd pick in 2023.
Kory goes with 1st in 2019.
YL likes a ton of guys from 2020 so he takes 6th in 2020.
    Team X wants 1st in 2020.

As the matrix gets filled out, you're still limited to a single 1st overall, a single 2nd overall, etc., but there's a bit of additional strategy involved. In this scenario, Trubs & YL are guaranteed the 1st in either 2021 or 2024, but this levels the playing field a bit more for the team that gets the "last" 1st pick, since they could maximize their draft position by grabbing a 2nd in a particular draft rather than "having" to use their early pick on a less than ideal 1st overall draft year.

Make sense? Fun wrinkle or feel like too much work?

I'm a fan of that too. Where did we land on Goaltenders? I agree with an earlier poster that we'd be lucky to have 2 starters mature by 2024. Should we do away with them, or make them optional? If the league continues for a number of years we'll start seeing our goalies get the nod

I'd still prefer to keep goalies in the draft, but agree we'll need to start with 2019 class (at the latest) for a realistic shot at each of us having a guy ready by 2024.

I think Knight, Askarov and (possibly) Wallstedt are all solid bets to be relevant by then.

2019 also has Wolf, Kochetkov & Konovalov with a decent shot imo. Give H.Jones, I.Saville and a couple of others at least a puncher's chance at being in the show. 2020 has a couple of promising guys too... though less likely to be fully baked by 2024.

With only 1G per team needed - does that group give all 6 of us a strong enough chance to draft a G who will be ready? I feel like it's "close enough" to give it a whirl, and maybe adds some extra strategy on when to draft a G... but I'm totally open to other ideas too.

Alternatively, we could also consider going from 2017 (J.Oettinger, J.Swayman, C.Primeau) or 2018 (L.Dostal, I.Prosvetov) for goalies only. The only downside with having too many promising options is that we'd all likely wait until the last pick to grab a G.

Sort of talked that out as I typed... but landing back on the side of "yes" to drafting goalies as long as we start everything in 2019.

I like the idea of strategically picking your draft spots. I've never done that but its a really good fun idea. I'm OK with whatever we decide on goalies but I do think it adds a little more fun having them involved and if it's free its not a big deal if it doesnt work out great.
