Default Good return for the 1st overall rookie pick this year?

I have an offer on the table for the 1st overall pick in this year's rookie draft, which I own.

I receive: 11th overall pick + ONE of Perfetti, Holtz, Jarvis, Boldy or Zary

It has yet to be determined which prospect I get in return, but I'm trying to leverage for my personal choice if I add a middling prospect or pick in the deal.

Does this sound like a good trade? Who should I target as the prospect coming back? My preference is the order in which I listed them, for now.

PS I also have the 5th overall pick this year, so instead of drafting 1st and 5th I could be going 5th, 11th and adding someone like Perfetti. Sounds pretty good, no?

Personally I would do the deal. Not gaga crazy about this upcoming crop plus you won’t have to wait too long for Perfetti or one of the others. Plus you have the 5th overall anyways. Good luck

I’d do that for the 11th and any of those prospects. You may end up with something like Sillinger or Lucius plus one of those prospects for, say, Eklund. No brainer.

Well, ya, this does sound pretty good. It sure seems like this years crop of prospects doesn't feature a player or two that clearly stand above the rest. Honestly 1 - 8 could be interchangeable. I also like that you have that 5th overall, this allows you to add a quality player this year as well as adding a top prospect with a year of development under their belt. I say do this. However, I'm asking for Perfetti first, then Holtz and then Jarvis. Hopefully the other guy goes for it. If you end up with Boldy or Zary its still OK, but it's not as sweet as the first three guys, that would be a big win for you IMO.

This draft lacks top end talent, so I'd take Perfetti and the pick and run.

I'd be curious to see where your tier breaks are in this draft. Where would OPs 11th pick place?

Am I crazy for wanting Boldy over Perfetti? Boldy's shots are off the charts in the AHL (3.8 shots/g) and had higher production. I'm aware he's a year older. But, bigger, more physical, has more opportunity in top 6 sooner in MIN than Perfetti does in WPG. Thoughts?

For this draft I'm valuing forwards over D from a fantasy perspective, but if I was ranking full my tiers are 1-5 followed by a slight gap then 6-12

That's a good trade for you. Maybe instead of getting the 11th overall, trade the pick for two of those prospects and tell him he can keep the 11th.

Not crazy at all. How folks value different prospects will vary. If you like Boldy, and there's no reason not too, then go for it. The important thing here is to get this deal done. It's a good opportunity for you, don't drag your feet too long or it may go away on you. Been there done that (:

Good advice. I made the offer last night and hopefully the GM accepts soon

I like this strategy best. Take the 11th pick if the other GM won't let you have the two prospects of your choosing.

do pretty much what you want...just not this...i like mostly the idea of trying to get two of those guys and not 11th pick ...but CP or Holtz plus that pick is also very good deal...i would personally trade 1st overall of either of those 2 guys straight up...

Personally I like Perfetti more than Boldy. Remember we're talking about a Draft +2 player vs a Draft +1 player. Also, your boy has 18 points in 14 AHL games, Perfetti also has 18 points in his last 14 AHL games. I think given their ages, Perfetti could be argued as being ahead in the development curve. Is it a bad idea, no. Yes Boldy is bigger and more physical, but the NHL is going away from physical aggressive contact and more towards a open-faceted fast paced finesse style game that showcases the skilset of players... their skating, shots, passing... which is why guys like your Johnny Gaudreaus thrive in today's NHL. Perfetti is made for today's game and even yesteryear.

That being said Boldy should be a better multi-cat player that gets you numbers in areas where Cole might not. But I believe Perfetti's offensive upside is higher.

One also has to look at the fact this is Perfetti's Draft +1 year vs. Boldy's Draft +2 year. One came from a league of boys to men, vs the other coming from the NCAA (a league of men) to the AHL further developed men. Then also look at who they will play with in the NHL. Perfetti's potential linemates and PP mates look more impressive.

So while I wouldn't knock your deal, I personally wouldn't move my Perfetti for their Boldy in my league given the aforementioned reasons. Either way, you have a good player.
I am a hockey obsessed fiend.
