Guentzel has back to back (nearly three straight) seasons of over ppg. The difference was only a couple of points this year, but I'm still going to go with Guentzel. As long as 87 is still there, he'll be ppg+.
So many keeper questions but wondering what people think of Ehlers vs Guentzel in a points only limited keeper!?

Agreed, as long as Crosby is with the Pens they’re going to play Guenztel with him and on PP1. Ehlers doesn’t always play PP1 and as you can see in the playoffs, for some reason he jumps on all sorts of lines/combos. I’ll take 27 when 87 is about done.
Call me old one more time.

This could be pretty much a dead heat as early as next year. Guenztel has definitely had the better numbers over the last three years. However, Ehlers progression, while a bit slower, has been steady. Ehlers is a year younger and it's likely, as a European player, his transition to the NHL has been a bit more difficult than it has been for Jake. If the upward trend for Ehlers continues he will join Jake as a ppg player and that could happen next year. I'm going to take Guenztel here, it's a surer thing, but this is very very close. I'll also add, and agree, that as long as Sid remains a force, and that's likely to be the case for at least a few more years, then Guenztel will clearly benefit from that and that contributes to Guenztel being the choice here. But again, this is close.

I think Ehlers needs to step up slightly to be even at best...
guentzel needs to keep up his pace to be even at worst...

Thanks for the replies. Guess that's pretty much my thinking as well and for now the plan is to keep Guentzel. But I really like Ehlers and think he has 85-90pt potential... if only he could find his way onto PP1.

Guentzel.
Ehlers has the talent to be better, but Maurice doesn't use him like he should.

I actually own both of them in my multicat keeper and I’m looking to drop Guentzel. I think Ehlers have another gear while Guentzel should decline a bit as Sid is getting older. With Laine out of town and Wheeler getting older, Ehlers should become a top option for Jets very soon.
But with that said, it’s a tough one and I understand why you would go Guentzel instead.
i think you making many assumptions and counting on too many stars to align to to allow you to be right...
i prefer proven things vs what might be...they both young enough that i prefer to stick to what has been working....
having said that i dont think you go wrong with either...

Would anyone be tempted to keep Ehlers instead of Crosby?
Salary cap league where Ehlers costs $6M and Crosby costs $8,7M. Is the $2,7M in cap savings worth the risk?

I get what you’re saying, but some of the stars are already aligning. Laine is gone, Wheeler were terrible this season and is clearly declining, so Ehlers have a great opportunity for better deployment in a top six that’s stacked even without Laine and Wheeler. But yeah, Sid slowing down hasn’t happened yet and for all we know he could keep it up a few more years and then Guentzel will be fine.
As an avid Pens fan, I'm convinced Guentzel is as great a bet as any for point-per-game production for the next 3 years. Crosby will be elite for a few more years but Guentzel is a legit play-driver in his own right.
I have both Guentzel and Ehlers and love them both. But...if I had to choose, I'd move Ehlers.
