Help with my keepers !

Hey guys,

In my signature salary cap league, what are your thoughts on my intended keepers in bold in my signature?

The three that are giving me the more headaches are Zacha, Beauvilier and Toews ...

However, the only keeper I would see myself letting go for one of them is Meier and after reading this morning Ramblings, I think I should hand onto him.

Personally, I would not keep Giroux in a salary cap keeper like this. Just doing a rough breakdown and cost per point for your skaters;

Giroux's salary equates to a $192,441 per point
Eriksson Ek = $49,583 per point
Lindholm = $103,191
Marchand = $88,768
Garland = $19,871
Vrana = $93,055
Meier = $193,584
Fiala = $75,000
Bjorkstrand = $56,818
Gustafsson = $249,999
Josi = $274,515
Toews = $132,258
Doughty = $323,529
Beauvillier = $75,000
Zacha = $64,285
Ritchie = $57,650
Dvorak = $143,548
Labanc = $168,750

Now, the Defensive salaries per point of course are higher, but Toews definitely shows his value. Josi did miss some time this season, so that doesn't help his numbers, but if you could find a way to keep both, I'd look into that for sure.
As for forwards, Giroux and Meier aren't pulling their weight with respects to some of the players you have on entry level contracts who are performing.
Lindholm, Marchand, Fiala, Garland, Vrana, Bjorkstrand are solid locks like you have bolded, and have good value per point, so no issues there.
Shestyorkin vs Petersen is what it is. Both are on entry level contracts, and Shestyorkin is on the better team going forward, so that's easy.

So for me, I would not keep Giroux or Meier in this instance. I would swap Meier for Toews, as his value for a defensemen is there. Then, in dropping Giroux, I would keep Eriksson Ek. He provides the best value in comparison to Beauvillier / Zacha, and really, I believe all 3 have upside, but right now the numbers don't lie.

Do you have to set your keepers before you know the new contracts? Garland in particular is going to get a raise (and I hope it's not to the same level that Keller or Schmaltz got extended for). JEE, Beauvillier, Vrana, and Fiala also need new deals.

Also, you still have Bjorkstrand listed at $2.5M and Josi at $4M. Is your league one year behind on salaries?

Initial keeper thoughts are:
Lindholm, Marchand, Vrana, Fiala, Bjorkstrand, JEE, Garland, Meier, Beauvillier
Josi
Shesty, Petersen

Those are your best 12 options. Some of the forwards will depend on their next contracts, so you then have to cut two more of Josi, Petersen, Meier, and the RFAs (if anyone gets overpaid).

Thanks, Eskimo ! You are right, my salaries were not updated yet as I forgot to do it. We are not one year behind in salaries.

I will be able to wait for the new contracts to come before locking my keepers so this will certainly help. As for the keepers, I can only keep 10 so I will keep your list of 12 in mind but will need to let 2 of them go !

not for me, i wouldn't be keeping Giroux here, I rather have Toews or Zacha. Toews will likely have 40+ points for 4.1 mil and Zacha will have 50ish for 2.25 mil... Giroux, even if you get 70 out of him is 6 more million over Zacha... I rather spend 8 mil on someone who is a safer bet for 80+ points. And redrafting Toews on that contract will be hard... Cheap producing D are hard to come by and his contract is awesome for 3 more seasons.
