Default M. Tkatchuk, Teravainen, Vrana, Olofsson, Hertl, Mantha (choose 2)

    Hi guys,

I have to choose 2 players between M. Tkatchuk,Teravainen, Vrana, Olofsson, Hertl and Mantha.

Who would you pick with my settings in a long term consideration?

    Thanks!

    In points only...
    1. Teravainen ... he will bounce back without a doubt.
    2. Vrana
    3. Tkatchuk
    4. Olofsson
    5. Mantha
    6. Hertl

Olofsson doesn't make the cut because of Buffalo. Mantha will likely never get on top Power Play with how deep WSH is. Hertl and SJ are on the wrong side of a rebuild.

Vrana will get lots of opportunity in DET and WILL score goals. Tkatchuk SHOULD rebound in CGY, but if Sutter stays the coach, they will likely be defensive first, which would hurt.

You have a tough choice ahead of you, but for me it would be Teravainen and Vrana.

Tkachuk and Tuevo for me. Only other one that gave me pause for a moment was Hertl, but I think those are the best bets

I'm leaning this way myself and for the same reasons. However, there is a strong case to be made for Tkatchuk, he and Vrana are close and things could swing either way.

Its between Teravainen, Hertl and Vrana for me.

Teravainen and Hertl have proven it before.

Vrana has not, but the opportunity is there.

Some have mentioned that San Jose is rebuilding - yes, sure, but the top guys are still going to score.

As of today, it's TT and MT. Mantha MAYYYY edge Tkachuk out depending on Caps post-season and Calgary's offseason, but it's TT and MT for me without a real thought.

Really honestly interested in the diversity of opinions here. Seems like Tuevo is pretty unanimous as the top choice and olofsson isn't getting any consideration but to compare the rest:

    Hertl - Age: 27; Last 3 years PPG: 0.87; Last 3 Years GPG: 0.4

Tkachuk: Age: 23; Last 3 Years PPG: 0.88; Last 3 Years GPG: 0.34

    Vrana: Age: 25; Last 3 Years PPG: 0.67 ; Last 3 Years GPG: 0.34

Mantha: Age: 26; Last 3 years PPG: 0.69; Last 3 Years GPG: 0.34

Pretty wild the last three guys have the exact same goals per game over the last three seasons. Tiny sample sizes but Mantha is actually below his last 3 year average since arriving in WASH and going forward his surrounding cast is aging. Vrana does have 8 goals in 11 games since arriving in Detroit but he did have a 4 goal game (which is awesome but I think fair to call an outlier).

I don't really see the case for Mantha here but I haven't WATCHED him alot so do folks think he has another gear? I know he is a bigger guy and they take longer to breakout in the league...but he is nearly 27 and my gut says he is what he is at this point.

Vrana is interesting as he was definitely buried in WASH, but a massive jump from him feels like it would begin to put him in the Hertl/Tkachuk range, rather than past them.

As for Tkachuk/Hertl, nearly equal, hertl does score more goals, but I would err on the side of the guy that is 4 years younger in a keeper league with all else being equal

Two seasons ago Mantha put up 38 pts in 43 games for a team that finished dead last in the eastern conference in both standings and in goals for. To emphasize how little they scored, the next worst team for GF still scored 35 more goals / 25% more!

When Mantha joined the caps they were hesitant to break up PP1 as it was rolling. Not sure if you've checked out the playoff lineups yet but Mantha is now on PP1--and you know he's going to generally stay on that moving forward, as he has far too much skill not to.

Maybe I'm out to lunch but I see Mantha as a good bet for 70+ pts next year.

By no means out to lunch, all good points. I guess I am usually basing my decisions on past production and even in the 43 game season for mantha, Tkachuk matched him in PPG that year in what was only his age 22 season. But I get that its next to impossible to estimate the impact of going from Detroit's top line/PP1 to Washington's
