April 2016: The 2015-16 season ended early for Kadri after he cross-checked Luke Glendening. It was another four-game suspension.
April 2018: Now we get to the back-to-back Kadri suspensions vs. the Bruins in playoff games. Kadri missed Games 2, 3, and 4 in the Maple Leafs’ 2018 First Round series vs. the Bruins for a hit on Tommy Wingels.
April 2019: A year later, the NHL suspended Nazem Kadri for the remainder of the Bruins – Maple Leafs First Round series (3-5 games) for a dangerous hit on Jake DeBrusk.

At least with the Avs being suspended for the remainder of the 1st round means you probably still get to play again in those playoffs. But he'll probably cross the line again in the 2nd round anyway.

But in reality, to me, it wasn't targetted. Those side hits are just dangerous. You are off by 1" and you end up doing what Kadri did. The potential to catch someone blinded sided increases the chances of a concussion. The look on Kadri's face when the Blues player told him "look what you did" when the scrum happened at the boards pretty much shows Kadri didn't mean it. I think his issue is he thinks he needs to hit to be in the lineup and that would have been his first hit in the game with 14TOI.

This should be a suspension, but like always I have no idea what DoPS will do.

Apparently, from what I am just finding out, he is NOT considered a repeat offender, even though there's a history there. They only go back 18 months for "repeat" offenses and his last one was 25 months ago. Again, a joke.

Doesn't an in-person hearing usually mean 6+ games? I thought it was done over the phone if it was 5 games or less.

It means the NHL has that option. If they want to go over 5 they have to offer the player an in-person hearing. Doesn't mean they have to go over 5 though. My guess here is 3.

Because they want to give the player a chance to plead his case (it is, after all, a hearing - not a sentencing) and still give themselves the option to go more than 5 if the hearing goes badly for Kadri.
