Not surprised if he’s traded before next season. So he isn’t getting surgery? If he does get dealt then the team dealing for him would take on a lot of risk (surgery or not). Meaning asking price shouldn’t be too high. Oh no Buffalo!
i guess Eichel isn't happy with how the Sabres are handling things...i dont see why? lol

Eichel is a little full of himself and never seems to be happy. He's had a bad attitude since being drafted and even played a part in the firings of GM Tim Murray and head coach Dan Bylsma. Which was a huge mistake by the Pegulas. Why give an 20 yr old that kind of influence? It can only get worse.
Will be traded for Laine,....Same attitude

i might have to opportunity to acquire jack in one of my leagues. maybe hes worth the risk.
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.
I would normally ask what kind of league but with his potential and ability it really doesn't matter (in my opinion). Its hard not to pick him up, unless you'd have to drop a really high end keeper!
I grabbed him this year mid season in a salary cap league which is possibly the style of league he is least valuable.

This is a realization that an NHLer is an asset not a person to teams. I think in the NHL if the injury happens during the NHL season, and "on the job" the team pays for. Wonder if the team was thinking more financially with the surgery decision vs what's best for the player.
The next thing is it's prolly covered by insurance...Soooo the whole thing could be the team physician could just think he doesn't need surgery? Maybe they were trying to just avoid surgery until a trade happens? It's very confusing the whole situation, especially now that the NHLPA is involved.

My darkhorse team to acquire Eichel is Columbus. They want/need a top center and Kekalainen is crazy enough to pay to get him. They have three 1st round picks in this years draft and a decent stable of kids that could get moved (Texier, Marchenko, Foudy, Bemstrom) AND they have NHL quality goalies to trade.
There's not a lot of teams who have the assets to make a deal but how many GMs have the balls to include them to make a deal for Eichel. That number is even less than the teams with the assets.

What is his contract like? Does he have NMC that can be leveraged to say avoid or not avoid Columbus?

He's too young to have a NMC, players can't have that option until their "UFA" years even if they are locked into a long contract early in their career. Only years where they would qualify as a UFA, had they no contract, could a NMC/NTC be attached.
I'm with Axe by the way. Columbus is my pick. Jarmo only has so much rope left I expect him to make a big swing.
NMC kicks in July 1st 2022.
If Buffalo is smart, package Eichel with Okposo. Okposo has a MNTC, but that would be non-existent really. Play Okposo one more yr, buy out Okposo for a penalty of 3.33mill in 2022-23 season, 1.33mill 2023-24 season.
Or buy him out this yr for a penalty of
2021-21 - 5mill
2022-23 - 3mill
2023-24 - 1mill
2024-25 - 1mill

Trading Eichel's salary will be challenging enough. Trying to add in even more salary without taking back a crappy contract would be damn near impossible I'd say. Not to mention, you probably diminish your return value on Eichel by trying to do this if you are expecting a team to do you a favor.
